Asus Z9PE-D8 WS and Intel Xeon E5-2620

Hi , in thinking of getting of Asus Z9PE-D8 WS and 2xIntel Xeon E5-2620 for photoshop . Is it possible to overclock those xeons ? And not is it better to get i7 3930K and overclock it as far it goes?

Yes you can, the Asus has a OC bios..
The issue on any dual 2011 board is you can only OC a small amount.
104-105BCLK is just about it right now.

    Holy thread resurrection:

I've been given a system with dual Xeons (2620) and this board (Z9PED8 WS) and asked to Overclock it with 2133MHz RAM.

First instinct was 160x19 for 2133MHz ish and ~3GHz on the CPUs but this wont POST. Reigned it in to a 120MHz fsb but still it wont POST. Any ideas where to go from here or should I give in and tell the client it's not going to play?

Want to get one of these boards so I have been reading up some. There are only one or two types of ram that have passed testing at 2133.

    See which ones at: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/ser...IMM_120607.pdf

Ok, where to start: First, the E5-26xx xeons are BCLK locked so you can't OC them like you could a i7-920 or even the previous gen like we did with the EVGA SR2 board.
On that Asus board you can increase the BCLK to 103 and thats about it..maybe 104 if your lucky.
Now to get 3GHz in that system you need to toss out those 2620's, peel open your wallet and remove $3000.00+ and buy a pair of E5-2690's or remove almost $4000,00 and buy a pair of the top E5-2687W's..Now, have I totally rained on your parade?

OK, got that, can't OC on that board at all.

Now trying to run 8X8GB 2133MHz Kingston Predators (KHX21C11T2K216X), can't get POST higher than 1866MHz 12-12-12-30-2 1.65V a very similar module is listed in the QVL

Any advice on settings that'll work?
