how much power would I save between these 2 configs...:

I have a rig that stays on 24/7. It is a niche Intel Xeon set-up circa '06 (google: Sossaman). Now I realise TDP isn't the power a component consumes, but it is a tell-tale sign as such (correct?).

I want to compare the three main components: CPU, mobo & RAM.

my current rigs TDPs for the 3 aforementioned are so:

CPUs (yes there are 2): 31W EACH (total 62W)
chipset (I don't know TDP of entire mobo): 10W
RAM: unknown, however it is DDR2 (which if I recall correctly uses more power than DDR3). There are 6 sticks installed currently.

I was thinking of upgrading to:

    CPU (only one): 17W
    chipset: 6.7W
RAM: again unknown, but this time 4 sticks of DDR3

anyone have a clue as to how much less power the latter would consume?

I use a power socket meter to monitor how much power the whole system is using for a day then do calculations...

Sorry cant help you in another way.

Id guestimate around 50-60w less power. Which comes out to what, like $30 of savings in a year? Dont know why that amount of power is such an issue.
    Rig 1:
    ASUS P8Z77-V
    Intel i5 3570K @ 4.75GHz
    16GB of Team Xtreme DDR-2666 RAM (11-13-13-35-2T)
    Nvidia GTX 670 4GB SLI

    Rig 2:
    Asus Sabertooth 990FX
    AMD FX-8350 @ 5.6GHz
    16GB of Mushkin DDR-1866 RAM (8-9-8-26-1T)
AMD 6950 with 6970 bios flash

the sossmans use quite alot of power per tast, i think that anything modern will be faster and use less power in the same clock range.
