    xfire with different cards?

    say a 6970 and a 6970 or a 6950 and a 6970?

    Yeah, but the performance benefit will be more akin to two of the lower end card.

    I used to have a 4850 and 4870X2 in tri-fire.

    As said upper, no, the cards need to be from the same core ( if not using Lucid ).

    Then, the higher memory size will be adapted to the lower.. ( if you have a 1gb and a 2gb cards, the second 2gb will become 1gb ).

    If too much difference in performance between both, the stronger gpu will be mostly assigned to do the work.. the second will get low usage.. result when it happend performance are not good.
