I read bits and pieces about this block coming but it hasn't yet.
So... Is this going to happen?

It's a kit. You need the copper base, AND the chrome hold-down bracket (because of the 54mm spacing instead of 53.2mm). The hold down bracket features the new standoff design that mimics the AMD setup (slightly protruding from the back of the board..).. a great feature IMO. Makes installation bery easy and reliable.
I am also in the process of making an AMD replica cross-bracket (with authorization), but it won't be here for another few weeks unfortunately.. so in the meantime, we'll ship the kits and the complete blocks with the hardware set that we provide with the Komodo series.

I don't have a MCW82.
I was hoping to be able to buy a MCW82 that is ready for HD79XX.

Got my order in. Kind of pricey with the CAlifornia taxes and shipping but this is exactly what I wanted. Thanks Swiftech!
Looking forward to thermal performance of the heatsink for hybrid cooling solution for the VRM and memory. Hook me up with deal and I may get one.![]()
Hm, will my trusty old MCW60 fit the 7000 series or am I out of luck there and need to (finally lol) get a new block?

Sweet.
Any idea how well this heat sink works on cooling the VRMs?
Hoping to receive my MCW82 HD7900 soon.

Yes I do.
Overclocked:
In passive mode (without an optional 60x15mm fan attached to the heatsink), and gentle air flow in the general direction of the heatsink (like an HDD cage fan for example), you will be in the same neighborhood as the stock solution temps under Furmark.
Installing a slow speed 60x15mm on the heatsink (I typically use a 1500 rpm very quiet fan), and the VR temps immediately drop about 30C.
Non overclocked:
In passive mode, it's about 20C below stock (with gentle ventilation).

So if I understand correctly, my MCW60 in its current form mounts to my 4870 without issue. But AMD changed things up a bit with the 7000 series and so my block cannot mount to the card?
Given how much the mounting kit for the 7800 costs vs an entire MCW82-7900 (only $18 difference), I might just go ahead and replace it with all-new. I'd still be looking at nearly the same cost as a full cover block I guess, but it would give me cheaper future upgrades (probably) anyway and it isn't like I haven't gotten my money's worth out of my MCW60 that I bought 5 years ago!
Also, are there any plans for 7800 series cards? Spending $360+ on the card and nearly $100 on cooling is rather expensive when I tally it all upThe 7850 would still be much faster than my trusty but aged 4870 but would save me $100.
I have too many expensive hobbies. Computers and cars (2 of them). Bad combination for the wallet and forcing me to pick and choose!

define (picture preferred) "current form" so I can answer precisely. You can also check the MCW82 product page, support section, it shows all the hold-down kits available.
7800 it's done. should go to production soon.
yes, spending close to $100 with shipping for a 360 card is expensive, relatively speaking. I wish we could make'em cheaper, but production quantities remain too small for volume saving.
CEO Swiftech
Awesome great news on the 7800! Total of $350 is easier for my budget
No worries on the $100, really can't expect the block or the heatsink to be much less. My MCW60 is the original one except maybe the v2 base with the smaller pins if it went through that same upgrade that the Apogee GT got years and years ago. That's partly why I'm not too concerned about upgrading the block since it is so ancient now.

Thanks for the info on the heat sinks.
What were you using to cool GPU?
