People still do but they are the quietest group ever. I know some moved on, and I don't anymore due to budget constraints. New hardware + the electricity to run it would have killed me, I'm still running my now ancient 4870 after all which F@H never ran well on it anyway. Some of our biggest talkers haven't been around and I feel kinda stupid talking to myself. I still check in here whenever I see some activity.

I'll join you guys again when I can but I only have my one PC and it runs WCG like I had done for a few years now. I put my CPUs on WCG, my GPUs on F@H... then my GPUs got so far out of date it wasn't even funny and I haven't felt like spending a few hundred bucks in upgrading them, not to mention the electric cost. My electric rates have increased twice in the last year Though I could afford to run 1 GPU on here now IF it was worth running. But like I mentioned my 4870 sucked at F@H anyway and trying to get it to run the client reliably is almost an exercise in futility anyway so I gave up on that a long time ago.

I had plans to set up a 2600K folding rig and join you guys, but from what I've read on the internet, bigadv is not possible anymore? I still fold on my 2500K and average around 18K PPD but I'm folding for a different team..(don't bash me lol)

I'll keep folding because I do it for the cause. Last team I was on was XtremeResources which I believe was run by similair people to this current site. Either way, I'll continue to fold on this team till Angra quits I guess, then this team will plummet super fast since he's basically carrying it. Then again, I may just keep folding as I did for my last team until they went the way of the dodo and fell off the interwebs.

As for production, my 3570k @ 4.4ghz has been doing poor PPD since I keep getting those 7610/7611 WU's which give HORRIBLE ppd, I'm talking 15k vs the 45-55k I get with other WU's.

I'm still only getting 6098's...never had a different work unit for my SMP..want to know which work units give out 45k ppd for our 4 core/4 thread CPU's!

How are you getting those work units? I've got the -advmethods flag in my SMP setup but all I've been getting for probably the past year are the 609x's...

What type CPU are you using for your SMP slot?

Bigadv can only be used with 16+ core SMP systems.

I thought about getting a cheap dual cpu G34 MB and a couple 8 or 12 core Opti's just to run bigadv.

Put it all in a small case on lnx and just let it go.

At the moment a 2500K but that's just doing SMP Gromacs. But I was planning on setting up a 2600K folding rig because I know back in the day they were doing the -bigadv units just fine weren't they? Just recently I was reading something saying that Stanford changed something and now we need 16+ core systems like you mentioned for the -bigadv...

I got them with the new V7 client. I don't use the v6.34 client anymore since the v7 can handle GPU folding as well all in one client.

I see, thanks for that. I haven't played around with the new V7 client, might check that out.

Personally, I decided to move to WCG for the following reasons:
    - good PPD needs high OC'd intel cpu's which then cost more to run 24/7
    - good PPD needs high-end nVidia GPU's which cost a lot to run 24/7
    - PPD using v7 really dropped
    - there are no team competitions / extra incentives to provide personal motivation @ FAH vs WCG
    - I reached a level where I feel that I have made a contribution to the team and FAH
    - time to try something new and still running for XS!

Of course, none of that should stop anyone from starting or continuing if they want to contribute.

I figured I would stick my head in here since I was hopping by to ask a wc question somewhere else...

Anyhow... to run big beta (-16 8101) and meet the deadlines you really can't run octos... dual dodecas (12) or 4x octos... (also stick to MC don't do IL)

Google spreadshee with lots of bigadv tpf data:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...nRklERFE#gid=0

iirc there is someone looking to sell his 4p octo rig on [H] fs/ft ... they opened it up to all folders not just Horde members.

i fold when i'm home - but lately, work has me on the road a lot. i'm also working on a new rig, but still waiting to get a gtx690 in stock....anywhere....i'm hoping for 50k+ ppd from an OCed 3930 plus the 2 OCed gtx680 cores.

question: does the v7 work with multiple GPUs? would be nice if one client really could do everything.

I'm really happy this didn't turn into a flame war. Way to stay classy [XS].

It's the same story for me really. I look at what everyone else posts, but rarely do so myself.

It's like my momma always said: 'don't say nottin', if you ain't got nuttin' to say... err something like that.

Well, I've been getting great PPD's for the past week (35-38k on a q9650/gtx480/gtx260) and now I'm getting some 802x series wu's and they suck for PPD (14-18k)!!!

So much for running all over Swiftdeathz!!!

i installed the new v7 on all my PCs yesterday. I LIKE IT!! it really is an all in one solution and even handles multilpe GPUs and can even monitor multiple PCs!! (nice touch). i also like that it has a ppd readout - though i think an average read would be better than a real time read out. looks like i'm only getting 8000 and 5000 series cores (8k for CPUs and 5k for my older GPUs) so ppd kinda sucks right now at about 20-22k.

question (to anyone using v7): is it possible to specify -big or -advanced anywhere? i looked everywhere and could not find anything. i finally just put the -big and -adv in the section that said FAHclient /shrug any help would be cool

You can specify -advance in expert mode. Click on the tab that says 'Novice' then click Expert. To add -advance globally (all clients/cores) click on 'configure' then 'expert'.
Under 'Extra client options' click 'Add'. In 'Name' type 'client-type'. In 'Value' type 'advanced'. Do not use the 'dash'.

IMHO the mods on the F@H forum made the people here sooo mad with their asinine points system that people left for WCG in droves!!! I did. There is so little drama with WCG. The F@H forum used to have drama worthy of Jerry Springer.

When I stopped folding F@H had a points system so random the mikeb12 posted this pic to demonstrate how points are really awarded.

I'm overcome with guilt Angra is carrying the team on occasion and fire up a rig or two. Team races got me folding for XS and baited me into crunching for WCG. If Dak or mikeb12 were to organize another race similar to Super Computer week, my rigs would be here to support it.
