Not necessarily because of cold. Even on air the cpu can go 2800+, problem is not all ram can scale up with it.
On the other hand, high clocking ram can't shine if cpu's imc can't do rams rated speed (and beyond) on air or cold.

The best way is to cover your base with cpu that has good imc then your search for high clocking ddr3 ram will be so much easier

Much wisdom in those few words.
In memory of Gracie, my sweet, sweet wife and mother of my children. Darling, we will miss you dearly. May you rest in peace (born to this world on March 30, 1976; went to her Heavenly Father on Good Friday, April 22, 2011).

Playing those sammy sitck since last June. For 4G stick, look for 1128, 1130-1132, 1137, 1152 chips. I have 20+ sticks, some go 2400 CL10-12-12, some 2400 even at CL9-11-11 all memtest past 1.65v quad channel X79 @ my 3820. It just $20 bucks each, really value for money

Don't have a good Z77 setting now not sure my 3770K IMC can go DDR3-2666+ stable or not. Seems Maximum 5 Formula is good choice for ram o/c as I saw top ten now are using that mainboard in HWBOT...

I received my kit last week and, unfortunately, got little time to test it.

    For the moment, I run 1866 9-10-9-14-1N-5-88-4-4-4-20 1.5v (RAM) 0.986v (VTT) and 0.925 (VCSSA) H24.
I encountered problems while turning freq to 2133. 2D is okay but 3D not (games freeze) even while lagging timings and pushing RAM (1.65) VTT (1.15-1.2) and VCSSA (1.1).
I need more time to test more properly. I am questionning about my mainboard too (Asrock P67).
    Some screens :

What memory kit is that? Elpida OEM or Kingston value? It's weird that no manufacturer is specified in the SPD.

Makes me want to hunt for more value RAM gems like in the old days of D9...

In my case it would be more "like the old days of BH-5"

Yeah, Dumo has gotten me started buying generic ram again, looking for those diamonds in the rough...at this point I don't know whether to thank him...or curse him.

Thanks Dumo, I've never heard of that brand before, but I found four of those sticks on ebay.de. We'll see how the auction pans out.
