Yeah I was going very slowly, but mine was very hard to cut into. Some parts I had to use so much force my hands were shaking. It's when it suddenly cuts through and the IHS suddenly released when you're still apply that much force that's what gets you.

I'm just glad that my chip is still working, for now at least.

Here at BenchX we are always looking for more performance, so on the newest intel CPUs we have to remove the IHS( Integrated Heat Spreader ). After doing so we go for a thermal interface replacemente, using high quality phobya liquid metal. We fallow with a IHS remount using black silicone to give the original look.

2 days ago I finally broke out the razer blade and cut the IHS off of my 3570k. Going to share my experience and I ask of your experience and expertise in choosing the best TIM to go between my DIE and Copper Block.

Right now my water cooled rig only has 1x120mm HWLABS Black ICE GTX Stealth radiator.

This is the testing water loop configuration for my first De-lidding test.

I have another radiator on back order at FrozenCPU and wanted to wait for it but I couldn't wait no more.

    Photos from my adventure.

Officially Delidded. *No going back at this point in the game.

Cleaned up and ready to GO!

Contact Paper pressure test is a go!

    Before with IHS on.

New contact pressure test with DT SNIPER water block directly on IB i5-3570k.

    Before Delidding.

    Ambient Temp 26C

    TIM IC Diamond 24

    Temps under LinX load 83C 93C 89C 84C

    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2531026

    De-Lidded results.

    Direct DIE Contact

    Ambient Temps 25.5C

    TIM IC Diamond 24

    Temps under LinX load *70C 80C 78C 74C

    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2531139

Conclusion: By de-lidding my IB i5-3570k I was able to lower average core temps from 87.25C to 75.5C!!!!!

Which is best TIM for bare die mounted directly to water block without IHS?

Those temps look high to me and my ambient is close to 27-28, specially with you using only 1.17V for your 4.5

Some try with Phobya Liquid Metal? because is the only liquid metal TIM in stock here on argentina.

look this list which you would put between IHS & die?

    http://www.pcmodd.com.ar/index.php?a...Rubro&rbrId=86

phobya should go fine?, given that I can not get coollaboratory

Phobya LM does really good for me. Around ~-30ºC improvement.

I used the same process for 2x 3770k and 1 3570k and all went well. You can check how and what I did some posts above .

My own 3770k does 4.8Ghz with 1.376v averaging between 60 to 65ºC depending on water temp ( before and with less volts and only 4.7Ghz would hit above 90ºC ), the other 3770k for a "client" was a really nice CPU 4.8Ghz with only 1.25v over 90ºC too, now does the same around the 60's. 3570k was also impressive, chip did 4.5Ghz with 1.25v hitting high 80's to low 90's, know doing 4.7Ghz at 1.32v around 60 to 65ºC.

thanks guys i read all pages and i see results...I go for phobya so!
@st0ned ...how you apply PHOBYA? ... in 4 sides? between die & ihs ,and again between IHS and block / cooler base ? or just with one apply into ihs & die...

Just between IHS and Die, then I used a "normal" TIM between IHS and cooler, or go for IX if I want "ultimate" performance. Problem with using phobya LM ( or any other LM ) between DIe and cooler base is that it will taint "permanently" both of them, since this TIMs are Gallium based, thus leaving traces, and a grey metallic look.

For more detailed info on phobya LM application you can see me doing at this video ( around 1:35 ).

I have trouble getting the first cut in. The gap between the IHS and the pcb is very small. Should i use more pressure or use a thinner blade or should i just stop. HA!

What type of razer blade are you using?

I did my corners first then sides with a stanly utility razer blade mounted between my thumb and index finger. I think its better to hold the blade directly in your fingers so that you can feel the cuts.

Only have single HWLAB stealth 120mm radiator in loop that has a HD7950 and the i53570k.

Right now the loop order is pump to radiator to hd7950 block to cpu to reservoir back to pump. I have a fix for my loop order and will upgrade radiator size soon.

Important thing to see in my post is that there was a 12.5C average drop on each core.

ok. I use a thinner blade and got in it. Removed the ihs and reapply thermal paste and stick back the IHS now. Hopefully the cpu is still alive

well it makes sense what Zeus says if you take IHS out gives 55 then either is not tighten enough without it or overtightened...when you put IHS all things are normal as it should be,thats the reason most of us use it with IHS on but paste changed
