What to say about fast 775 CPU users
My x3370 works just fine. Other than Shogun 2, the only bottleneck in my rig is my 5870.

Yup, I still love my QX9650, still haven't found a game I cant play with everything on max on my 1080p.

*I don't include Skyrim + bla bla bla in this statement.

Rubbish. My GTX 260 216, which is only a little bit slower than the 280, can only manage to run BF3, metro etc on every set to it's lowest at 1920x1200 and in the case of metro, it is practically unplayable.

Chrono nice to hear your rig is still going strong, I also replaced mine ud7 with orange OC I only need one more strong hex core cpu to make it fully happy. To bad I can't see market section around here?

Im gonna be on this for atleast a couple of years more, this chip has to be one of the most legendary chips ever released.
Hard to cool though (I mean for those of us who are cheap enough not to use water)... I was able to mod my True's retention system that I was getting good temps in the winter but now that the summer is coming I really fear for my little CPU.

So I bought the "pressure vault bracker" which is supposededly better and now (that high temps are upon us) I'm getting 55C at idle (!). Anyway cooling those beasts needs a m@therf@cking effort which is why I'm considering moving from s1366 to s1155... I will fiddle a little more I guess, maybe use some tips on the way, but really it's cheaper (for me) to move to s1155 than to (move to) water...

well i did say most, and console ports. u mentioned 2 of the most extreme examples. in the case of BF3 it was a PC centric game, not a console port.

    Doesn't ivy support ddr3 2800mhz?
    1200mhz sounds really underwhelming.

I don't think theres much point, these days you need a quad core to run intensive games properly.

There are a ton of mistakes in that "review".

Ive been working on gathering CPUs of each arch from the past few years, and running all at pure stock settings, clock for clock with even ram, and then max daily air OC. For the gaming parts of it, I still havent gone back far enough to see any real difference between any of them (Ive done C2Q, PHII, BD, SB, and working on IB and 1st gen i7, Ive even got a PHI 9850 to test lol).

Yeah, PC is not for gaming anymore. Plus they should compare the i7 920 to the i7 3820 for workstation to workstation. If you wanted to compare z77 should compare that to p55.

It's a legit necro, the OP has failed to post us the results necessary to complete this thread. I mean this with the utmost respect and intrigue.

D0 came out about a year later after the 920's launch, and mine will do 4.2 on air pretty easily. the d0 requires much less voltage. on my c0 i had to do 1.49 on the vcore, and with the d0 it's 1.29v

    Maybe I meant I bought an I7 D0 when the I7 D0 launched?

Mine needed 1.4v to do 4.2 Ghz, and air coolers couldn't keep it cooled below TJmax.

LOL, yea I have a x58 920 and its been a great chip from the get go. So good that I've not upgraded to sandy or ivy. But if I had no computer and had to buy right now, there is no way I would ever consider a 920i over a 3770k,

USB 3.0 vs old slow USB 2.0
    PCI 2.0 vs PCI 3.0
Power and heat of 920i at high clocks is scary. Most don't both to check but it probably cost over 200.00 year more than ivy to run. I feel like my 920i is like and OLD V8 car that gets 8 mpg but has plenty of torque.

The new ivy sips power and has more speed. Produces far less heat. My room gets so hot I have to open windows in the winter time. I'll wait till haswell but I did get a 3770k for my son and yes I'll admit I sort of want one but I know it won't give me the WOW i'm looking for. I bought myself swan M50 PC speakers instead, and love them, no regrets. I'm still loving my old V8 (920i @ 3.5) I can go 4.3 but the performance vs the heat/power was not worth it to me.

Some things I considered when buying my son his 3770k. I almost got a Xeon E3-1230 V2 instead of the 3770k because of price. I thought the built in graphics would be useless as he has a gtx 570. After seeing the encoding speed of the built in HD4000 I changed my mind and got a 3770k. Well I did find one for 220.00 boxed on sale, if it were 300+ I would have picked the Xeon at 230.00

encoding speed on the hd4000. It crushes gtx 680s by over 200 percent

The x58 has been great can't complain, it was overbuilt for its day.

Most of the changes have been subtle in terms of clock for clock performance, not enough to make me jump to sandy or ivy. The 920, 930s were great old dogs, some day I'll put it to rest next to my Atari 800

Here, here. Not swapping out my X58 system until I see something that really impresses me and offers a truly legit performance jump.

Still running 1366 here but I've been on the trigger a couple times for a new build.

Definitely uses power like an old big block muscle car compared to newer hardware but thats why I have mine drop to S3 relatively fast when not in use, SSD's make wake near instant.

Hope these TITANS have a lifetime at 1.0Ghz like that. Supposedly next-gen will (780?) will just barely beat or match TITAN.

^^ I think HD 7900 and GK104 still has at least another year of life yet. I cant see GTX 780 being better than a Titan, I reckon its going to be a cut down cheaper 680 replacement.

Im glad I did, its still going to have a very long life left before it needs upgrading, and runs at 4 Ghz on 1.2v (probably not as efficient as IB, but still leaps and bounds better than my 920 was).
