3820 users: Your thought after buying it?

    Hello everybody!

I'm interested in buying this CPU and I wanted to know how do you feel about it after using it. Is performance what you expected? Would you buy it again or recommend it? What about overclocking?
I'm not really looking for a 5GHz tag, just want performance for gaming purposes. This CPU is cheaper than a 2600k here.

Have played with it, and it`s not to shabby. Performance was quit equal compared to my W3680, both running 4,4 on air.
The complete platform cost is high, though.
Got an 3960X now, as they are going for €450 now, via OEM channels.

Better wait a little, until the performance and coast of Ivy becomes clear

If you can`t, read this (Thanks Viss)

Go straight for Ivy mate, don't waste your cash on X79 platform.... CPU might be cheap, mobo's aren't...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I was thinking about buying a Rampage Formula.
My plan is to grab a 3820, use it under water for as long as it survives and then grab an IB-E or a 3930.

I would grab a Z77 board and a cheap 2500k, first batch ivy CPUs are probably going to have leakage and heat issues because of a currently immature 22nm process.

Skip Ivy, go SB-E > Haswell later on.

Thoughts on it, good, bout the same as a 3770k/2600k when you overclock them. For gaming, you will not be able to tell the difference from 4.8GHZ 2600k, 4.8GHZ 3820, or 4600 3770K at all. Those speeds seem to be consistently attainable by the chips.

X79 and Z77 are equal on a lot of features, with some odd differences most of which are irrelevant to many people (SRT/Lucid). Either will do gaming beautifully, buy the cheaper one. Keep in mind 3820 is easier to cool, but has a lower Tjmax, so it's probably a wash.
