My GS2 still runs smooth as butter and can easily last a day with light usuage. Ill be waiting for the GS4. I think these quads are overkill for any phone.

Say what you will, but I love my international HOX. Quad cores and 4.7" screen rock. Its a sizeable upgrade from my previous Tegra 2 device. The S4 puts down some nice numbers, but I'll take 4 cores over LTE at this stage in the game. 5-9Mb/sec (actual) is plenty at this point.

How many apps make any use of 4 cores? I'm betting that number is super low.

Obviously, at this point at least. Glowball and benchmarks are pretty much it currently. Who cares though? The companion core yields awesome standby, and its a tegra 3 exclusive. Best case a quad core cpu helps, worst case the extra cores are asleep. It comes with nice graphic capabilities too, its not just a heap of CPU horsepower.

Except in every situation Tegra 3 isn't having 4 cores stressed, S4 is better, including graphics performance.

In cases where it is faster it is often much faster. You won't always use all 4 cores, but you get higher clocks when fewer cores are in use. It isn't really noticeably so when it is slower either, and I'm assuming not slower quite as often as you're implying. Even the browser can (reportedly - unverified) use 4 cores. Neither model is the wrong way to go right now. The extra space on the international version helps too.
