    Nikon D800 who wants one?

I've just read a very favourable review of this marvelous prosumer camera and I want it lol. Resolution wise it competes with a large format camera for a fraction of the price. roll on next birthday :-)
And heres a nice lense to go with it Nikon 6mm

Highest rated camera on DxO. It's definitely in a class of it's own for performance/dollar. There is nothing else in the world like it. Being a wildlife photographer I'd rather have a D4 or D400. However comparing it to large or medium format cameras is apples to oranges. What makes a medium/large format camera different from a FX (35mm) is the physical size of the sensor instead of the pixels packed into the sensor.

Plus the D600 should be out around September-December. D3200 with a FX sensor for around $1500. Rumors as of now but highly likely.

    I have a D7000 and it's a lovely camera, I also have a D5000, I would gladly trade them both for that D800.

I'm okay with my D5100 for now. Does everything I need it to do, maybe not everything I want it to...I can even photograph race cars at night and make a decent 11x14.

Landscapes that aren't moving I can easily take 4 shots and stitch in post, ~60MP...

Its more like who doesnt want it.

Tho its not all sunshine and rainbows..

At least 2 cases of camera explosion. Few batches of battery is a bit.. dangerous. LCD has green tint (messed up WB of LCD). LiveView is wierd and not much usefull, especially not under dim light.

Otherwise its fine. Just I would probably wait a bit until they catch all bugs. Lately theres tendency to release "beta versions" of camera. 5DMK3 isnt exception, other horribly flawed in all ways is Fuji X-PRO 1. Tho thats probably not "beta version" thats just Fuji being.. well Fuji.

D700 is right now good buy, if you dont need 36 mpix..

Nikon says the "green cast" on the lcd preview is accurate. They claim it's a correction from earlier models.

I'm REAL happy with mine! Resolution (cropability), and dynamic range are superb.

nice shot nuclearjock. I rented one for a wedding and it was awesome. Now the D600 is out and has the same controls as D7000 the game is truly on. ( not to mention the price) Do you find that your hard disk space and opening up a days worth of shots tiresome?

Not at all. My PC handles the large files very well. They usually get a simple pass through LR4 and that's it. Very seldom do I have to use CS6 for anything. I shoot .nef, crop for composition, sharpen a tad, and deal with recovering dark areas if necessary and that's it. Resize and save as a jpeg and I'm good to go. I love the D800 so much that I'm contemplating adding a D800E as well.

I shoot kids soccer and fast pitch softball to pay for my gear. Been doing it for ~ 10 years now hence the "collection". Wildlife and landscapes in my downtime. Forgot my 500. Sold a few lenses as well. List should be up to date.
