Just adding this for new people coming in: feel free to recruit family members for the week too. Get them joined up with their own account or for those that want less hassle, just let them use yours. Tell them its for the week and see if you can keep them on even after.

The Facebook and email are good tools or if you over at people's house and notice they have a computer. I mention it to those I know are receptive to these kinds of things. Sometimes people are looking for a way to give back and help out, but just don't know exactly how to get started.

Does anyone know if the latest UBUNTU has boinc built in?
I have the parts to put together another rig but no OS, and I'm not well versed in Linux...

If someone had an ISO with ubuntu and boinc ready to go that would be awesome.
If not, I'll figure it out, but I just dropped out of the top 500!
    Somewthing MUST be done...

As far as I'm aware, yes it does, and the procedure to get it running hasn't changed any across different versions. Just sing out if you want a hand with it, there's several people here who can give you a walk through of the set up.

If it's just a cruncher only then download a 64-bit retail .iso of windows 7 and don't worry about activation. The screen will turn black after the 30 days are up but it doesn't shut down or anything.
I know Ubuntu 11.04 has boinc after you update the repositories.

edit: dangit DA you always beat me to the linux questions. you have some serious Linux ESP! Shouldn't you be asleep over there or something

I think you'll like NZ. The general attitude is pretty similar in a lot of ways though the country is vastly different and very beautiful, so I'm told. You should have a ball!

I'm not quite so enthusiastic. My 1st 3770K has been running about 29 hours stock. For the last 24hr. period, 34,411 wcg. 2 pages PV. It's way too early to tell. The first day looks a lot like an SB 2600. Those run at least 6C cooler.

I do believe this is the most excitement I've seen for a distributed computing event since the 1st race I joined the XS F@H team for in '08. Da Goose and Mikeb12 organized it. I crashed the party late. RR was still a frequent contributor. I can't remember whether it was the 1st race or the 2nd race that had an "Office Space" theme. Secretaries were doing their boss in the basement. Tall stories and debauchery reigned!!! Elaborate executive offices were being awarded on a whim. And MTM was disturbing S as usual. He got banned and then perma-banned. The teams taunted each other mercilessly. (in fun) Ahhh!!! Those were the days!!! I'm sure the mods remember all the good times like that!

Glad to see a renewed interest!!!
