    4 gtx690's

am aware that i cant run 4 gtx690s on SLI but i can run two.

my question is i do alot of 3d rendering and would like to start folding again. The extra two gtx690's would still give me a leaps and bounds advantage in rendering and folding correct?

If you can keep them cooled and powered, sure Not sure how many boards out there will play nice with that kind of setup however, adequate spacing and such.

    You'll want an X79 system for 4x690s

    +1 everyone

    A good X79, a good clocked 3930K and 16 or 32gb of at least 1600mhz ram. (i prefer 2133+mhz ram )

Add to this a really strong 1500w PSU.

WCing could be a very good way to keep everything cooled properly.

I would go dual PSUs, 1 KW minimum. Considering he's folding as well, I think there will high load on the system 24/7 and you don't want to be running a PSU too near to its capacity...

    4x GeForce GTX 690 = 1,200 watts
    Core i7-3930K at stock = 130 watts
Rest of system, call it 150 watts

We're at 1,480 watts before overclocking the CPU, which will probably push the total to about 1,550 to 1,600 watts. That's two 800 watt PSUs running at capacity, add 25 % overhead and we're at 2x 1 KW.
