Not sure about that 2666 comment mate, feels more like hynix looking at the clocks I'm getting...

The 2666mhz kit is double sided and then it is not hynix. because the hynix chip mems is singel sided in 4 gig sticks

Do you have any proof for this?
Imo double sided is Hynix most of the time and single sided should always be Samsung.

I like the 2666C11 kit that gives me 2800C10-12-12 at 1.8Vdimm and looking at our capable 2400C9 RipjawsZ kit, that one was samsung based...

I can't get a grip on my 2666C11 kit; It doesn't like lower TRCD at all, not even at 2600Mhz (wanted to simulate some lower end TridentX kits). Don't even think about 2800Mhz Cas10, C11 yes, but not C10 where we all want it to be for benching... but that's just my kit...

I prefer Samsung Team Xtreem 2600C10 as they could do 2800C10 stable as low as 1.78v whilst the Hynix RipZ 2400C9 needs 1.88v for 2600C10. That was on Z77 platform.

On X79, this Samsung will work on all the populated dimm slots 8X4GB = 32GB whilst Hynix won't even boot at 32GB 2133 (2 kits won't work)

Should be Samsung but which thats the question !

I just got a 2400mhz Trident X kit with the AB40 in the serial number dated from April 2012. Was hoping to get double sided kit based on reviews.

AB40 is supposed to be Hynix H9C according to here:

Well, how do you know yours are Samsung? I was just going by what I've seen so far, but I stand corrected, some of the single sided kits are probably Hynix chips.

First (review ) batches of 2400C10 were 0240, clearly Hynix ( 4GB double sided ), after that came 0340, Samsung ( 4GB single sided ), then AB40 ( 4GB single sided ), marked with GSKGSKGSK just like the 0340 kit, so I thought they were Samsung but it seems like they might have been Hynix after seeing trans am's pic. On the other hand they can do those weird timings ( 1200MHz @ 10-10-11-27 @ 1.5V ) which I've only seen on Samsung so far. Then there were a bunch of 0000 kits, and now they are marked 1500. I have no ideas what 0000 is, but hokiealumnus' 8GB sticks (double sided) are marked 1500 as well and they can run the weird timings ( 1200MHz @ 10-10-13-26 @ 1.65V ) that are typical of the Samsung 4Gb B-rev. IC. Another proof is Tapakah's kit, 8GB double sided sticks marked 1500, he can run those weird timings as well ( 1200MHz @ 10-10-12-30 @ 1.55V ) and you can see SE hidden under the GSKGSKGSK which means it's a Samsung IC.

The only 2600C10 kit I have seen was posted in this thread, retail kit, marked 0340, Samsung ( 4GB double sided ). Then I know about another retail kit that is marked 1500, 4GB double sided, should be Samsung too by results and the looks of the IC.

The 2666C11 were first marked 0240, Hynix, but I don't know if they were single or double sided (4GB sticks). It was vr-zone's review kit. Then there was trans am's kit marked AB40 where you can see half of the H9C under the GSKGSKGSK, so it must be Hynix (4GB sticks). Madshrimps has a kit that is marked AB40, 4GB double sided, too.

The only 2800C11 kit I have seen was marked 0000, just fyi (4GB sticks).

Do you have any info about the part number? How did you determine which were Hynix and which were Samsung?

Supposed to be Hynix H9C according to here:

@Don_dan 240 doesnt means hynix.. in an earlier thread, someone had pointed out samsung, and looking at the photos you also posted, i have (in other gskill 32gb set) ....240.... and samsung.. .Assuming the number coding.. will be the same across all recent gskill memory kits, the 240 kits you mentioned.. would be samsung

Do you know if the AB40 on the 2400mhz serial number means they are good quality? Or did I get a low binned cheap set of ram???

Seems like its hard to figure out who makes the ICs on these kits.

Havn't had time to play with them yet.

    To determine Samsung vs Hynix
    How about this?
    Try run 32m @ 2400 9-11-10 @ 1.65v

    Hynix can pass 9-11-10
Samsung fails 9-11-10 but pass 9-11-11 only

Single sided but I have read that the AB40 designation makes them good. I'm confused about the IC naming and identification.

Going to play with them soon. If they suck I am going to send them back to store.

Booj on Ocau has some 2400 double sided trident x, no idea if he got them in Au, I'm doubting he did.
Gskill seems to be putting all sorts of stuff in these 2400c10 kits, the 2600/2666 are either Samsung double sided or Hynix, haven't seen anyone post their 2600+ kits being single sided.

Samsung or Hynix I don't think it matters much since both companies are making high quality ICs. The weakness seems to be the single sided double density sticks. The double sided kits are lowerer density ram and as such are able to conduct electricity better and dissipate heat better.

All the best kits that I have seen reviewed or talked up about are the double sided kits.

I have a single sided "AB40" 2400 MHZ kit that I am going to play with later on today. I already have a feeling they are going to be duds. I hope not but its hard to be optimistic over the physics of it all.

I'm happy with my single sided "AB40" kit. Not sure what the ICs are but they are fast. Run 2400mhz XMP profile at 1.525v.

Wont do 2600mhz with stock voltage but will do 2600mhz with 1.725v. So at least they are scaling with voltage.

Haven't tried yet but most of the reviews with single sided kits couldn't get 2600mhz so I feel satisfied to some degree with them. They are not total duds. Still looking for a double sided kit.

I tried manually over clocking 3 different sets of Samsung 30nm 5GB kits and fastest I could get them was 2133mhz at same 4.5GHZ with i5-3570k. 2600mhz is a nice speed for my cpu with Z68chipset MB. I had a set of G.Skill CL9 2133mhz and fastest I could over clock them was to 2200mhz.

Not sure if Z77 is better than Z68 for over clocking ram. I may have a golden set of Trident X 2400mhz single sided ram.
