By the way, glad to hear that you got HCH9. Certainly more upside potential with those, then again it appears that GSkill is binning the heck out of those Samsung chips to get the high end stuff so maybe not.
Assuming I keep them, that is. The originals were among my best CFR sticks, I have enough Samsung. Now the only good Hynix I have are the Vengeance 2400 C10 (admittedly strong, they can do 2666 C11 stock volts).

So, 2400C10 Trident X current batches are single-sided Samsung only/mostly, for 2x4GB kits.

What about 2x8GB Kits ? Should be double sided normally ?

Yeah but...16 chips of Samsung K4B4G0846D-HCH9 per stick is even worse than 8. They just don't want to go any higher than 2550. The best 4Gbit IC out there for overclocking this far is Hynix MFR.

Which is 2600C10 and 2666C11 ? Or have i got it wrong? I've read these 8 pages again and again, but i thing i've confused the facts a bit...

    2600C10 = double-sided Samsung K4B2G0846D-HCH9
    2666C11 = double-sided Hynix H5TQ2G83CFR or single-sided Hynix H5TQ4G83MFR

For a bencher 2600C10 all the way !
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Here's a new review of these (4x4GB), marked as AB40 which would make one think Hynix but the timings they got out of them seem more like Samsung: http://www.pc-max.de/artikel/arbeits...16gb-ram/11428

Yep doesn't seem to act as Hynix. What is it with these sites lately: no proof of stability at all. So easy to put down these sticks run 2800Mhz without any valid screenshot... big sigh...

By now I'm pretty sure that AB40 can be both Samsung and Hynix. On the 2666CL11 kit AB40 was Hynix for sure, on the 2400CL10 kits AB40 must be Samsung since they can do those weird timings and they only clock to ~DDR-2550 max like other Samsung 4Gb B-rev chips.

They do provide a statement regarding the supposed stability tests they use (translated from the German):

    Benchmarks and test methods:

We determine the throughput and delay memory means of the built-in benchmark tool AIDA64 software. To the stability for overclocking and Under Volten explore, we resort to Memtest86 + and Prime 95th Both test programs run for several hours.

I speak german Shi, but I still don't have proof of any kind, without a valid screenshot.

Best quote of the year 2012 comes frm my favourite webe hardwareheaven, review done with the 2666C10 Doms :

With 2800MHz achieved we then tweaked the timings and voltage which allowed us to hit 3000MHz with 11-12-12-32-2T and 1.75v.

Overclocking was a simple process on the Dominator Platinum, a simple BIOS change had the sticks running at 2800MHz and a few more tweaks got us to 3000MHz. Plenty of flexibility there.

If them timings are true those must be the best sticks and Ivy IMC on air ever... and yes they probably even did it with 16GB :p

Sorry for the derail of the thread Movieman :p

Enthusiast ram that doesn't over clock is a big let down.

These sticks let me down big time. I have the AB40 single sided kit and it was a big let down. Seems like only a few rare sets were sold with the double sided IC's.

Sadly for us the RAM vendors don't have to warrant anything, every MHz we can squeeze out of them are an extra...

Imagine paying a premium for the higher binned (+2600MHz) sticks and they let you down, that would be even more painfull... that's overclocking man in it's purest form...

I think the biggest question with the Trident X 2400C10 kits is..."Why?" Why use four different ICs? It's not like there is a shortage of Hynix CFR or Samsung 2Gbit HCH9. Why even bother with the high density stuff on a kit that is composed of 4GB sticks???

While that is a true statement and I agree with you...in this particular case it sure seems like GSkill sent out a bunch of review samples using ICs that were not going to be used on but the fewest of the retail products.

I feel like we were subjected to the old "bait-and-switch" con on this model. Maybe that's a bit harsh, but there were way too many variations of this product and few of them matched what the reviewers got.

With ram it's sometimes quite similar to good CPU batches, grab them while they are hot !

my chips samsung are not good, then do not like 2600, I decided to try down the timings.

    are now 2400MHz with 9-11-12-19 @ 1.685V
    Intel i7 4770k @ 4.5Ghz
    Asrock Z87 OC Formula
    CF R9 290x - WC
    16Gb Avexir Core 2800Mhz
    Samsung SSD 840 128Gb + RAID 0 500Gb F3

With regards to the Asus Maximus V Gene's QVL (Qualified Vendors List) the memory listed at the 2400 speed are all 4 GHz modules. I'm looking at getting 16 GB of memory. The TridentX comes as both a 4x4 GB kit and a 2x8 GB kit. I had thought that it was easier to OC a board with less memory modules in it. Could someone please enlighten me. The timings are the same for both of these kits. The price of the 2x8 GB kit is also cheaper than the 4x4 GB kit. Why wouldn't the 2 module kit work just as well and why wouldn't the Qualified Vendors List list this?

2400 CL9 is likely to be Samsung either HCH9 or HYK0.

If they are good at over clocking I might get a kit.

Right now AVEXAR 2666mhz CL 11 1.65v kit can be had for $129.99.... and Corsair Vengence 1.5v CL9 can be had for $69.99... at newegg.

2400mhz CL9 1.65mhz for $99 really doesn't seem like that great of a deal especially since some people are over clocking the cheap 8GB Samsung kits to around teh same speeds and volts.

I like Gskill ram but I find their kits becoming more expensive and less over clock friendly.

If this kit was 2400mhz CL9 1.5v I would be all over it for $99.

Very few Samsung kits are going to do 2400 C9 at 1.65v and 1.5v is probably impossible, those are well binned and frankly the only 2400 C9 kits around aside from Corsair's Vengeance and Dominator Platinum kits. I have 4x4GB of the new Trident X C9 sticks on the way.

It will probably work, they can't test every kit out there. The thing with 8GB sticks is, the higher density the IC, the less overclockability.
