OcUK have said this, so maybe the 23rd will be the date when the NDA is dropped so that reviews are made available and the 29th on sale in shops?

IMo I have NO IDEA why Intel did this, as the CPu at stock runs MUCh lower than 77W full load!!!! That is me measuring 3770K E1 stepping ES with a current meter on the 12v inputs, so that means I am measuring the input power and not accounting for efficiency losses, and I am getting about 55-60W input power to the CPu at stock with turbo. I don't get why intel is trying to make Ivy look bad, perhaps to sell off Sandy?
Did you max the CPU+GPU part fully? The GPU eats up a bit too.
But some Intel products are rated much higher on TDP, example i3-2100, it does less than 50W in most cases, with GPU+CPU loaded to their max, and it is labelled with "65W", the reason why Intel is doing this, is to label "groups" with same TDP, obviuosly the model 100mhz faster, has a little higher TDP.
Be that said, a wild guess here - since I do not have the products, or the many ES models, but... I bet some didnt handle the voltage, and they therefore choose to up it. Bare in mind, Intel is selling in gigantic quantities, and they have to run things slick, no uncalled for risk taking, they test in extreme enviroments.

I will retest but i stand by those numbers for the CPU.
You also have to factor efficiency losses, as well as the fact that Intel TDp is 80% of true TDP as far as i know.

Are sandy bridge prices expected to drop when these are sold? If it's substantial, I may have to go with Sandy, depending on performance increase and overclock...
When it's out, you'll see a slew of reviews being released, among other things. Either that, or they will release reviews earlier which will then tell you when the actually availability will be. Until you see it on the front page of Anand, etc., then it isn't released (or soon to be released).
I heard the IHS is the problem...
