People complain about UE3, saying it's too dated. I mean technically the engine used in COD has been constantly updated, people complain about that too. Valve does it, and people don't even bat an eye.
Fact is, no amount of updates are going to bring Source up to speed with everything else on the market. It doesn't look much better now than it did in when HL2 shipped. It's still horrible at lighting and shadows and still uses a fake HDR mock-up, yet people still eat it up without batting an eye. Crysis 2 looked better than ANYTHING even remotely possible with source, yet people said crysis 2 looked horrible? GoW1 on the x360 looks better than anything done with Source as well, and that's a 6 year old console game.
Am I the only one who notices these things?
Its all relative. Make a good, fun game and people wont rage about graphics, as much.
But tbh I'd take a source game any day over some half arsed attempt with cry engine. Which frankly, looked likeat times. Together with bad game play it was bound to fail. And so it did.
You loved crysis 2? fair enough, but the majority did not.

i never said that anything not as good looking at the witcher 2 is bad. lets be frank, crytek has never really released a great game. crytek use to get by because it was one of the few game companies that pushed the envelope visually. crysis 2 besides not being all the impressive looking has extremely poor AI (worst than crysis 1), and horrific controls (pc game controls were barely an afterthought). the witcher 2 looks greatand has pretty good controls. i personally like the idea of the super soldier nanosuit and thats why i will still give crytek a chance. like i said earlier crytek built up a loyal pc fan base and then spit on them by being extremely lazy in what they gave the pc crowd ("dx11" patch "high res"texture patch) and just straight up lying to the pc audience ("crysis 2 will be dx11" "the pc is the lead platform in developing crysis 2")
crysis 1 was a polished terd (a fairly enjoyable one though) crysis 2 wasnt even pretty so therefore it was just a normal terd
Anyone that keeps up with the Unreal engine knows it's not dated, the Samaritan demo is a prime example of what that engine can do.
As Wez stated it's also all down to the game, a good game and people don't care about the visuals too much as long as it's not 'that' bad it takes away from game play.
Look at Tribes Ascend, it's using UE3 and it's extremely popular. The engine works well with the game and no one is complaining it looks too outdated.
On the topic of Crysis, Crytek simply lied to it's supporters, claiming it's going to be a DX11 game and focussing on the PC. It was simply bad looking and even worse when it came to playing it. It was a terrible game, that suffered from bad AI, bad graphics, bad story and bad gameply in general.
I doubt Crysis 3 is not going to be any better really, unless they go about it like a few other companies and focus on the pc first and then work on the console versions after that.
I wouldn't call Crysis 1 a turd (correct spelling, who cares...). The game looked good and was actually fun to play, more so than Crysis 2, which was a decent game, more so in multiplayer.
This video shows just how much fun Crysis 1 is, don't mind the low-quality recording and bad Crysis 1 voice-acting. We'll forgive it for now.

I liked Crysis 1 quite a lot. It had some of the features I'd expect any true-PC-designed first person shooter to have: different ammo types, lean, and lot of config options, starting with the nanosuit voice ( xxxx MODE ENGAGED) which was cool at first but quickly became obnoxious. You couldn't switch on/off the nanosuit voice in Crysis 2 (typical lack of options of console games).
The first Crysis also featured four nanosuit modes, while this number was reduced to three in Crysis 2. I believe the reason behind this was the lack of buttons of console pads.
The first Crysis let you play your own way. If you wanted to play stealth and sneak into camps etc, you could do it. If you wanted to go all guns blazing, that was possible too.
The map was not as open as the first Farcry but it was open anyway. Crysis 2 maps weren't nearly as open.
Whatever, Crytek has done Farcry, Crysis, Warhead (and Crysis Wars) and Crysis 2 and I've enjoyed all of them, some more than the others but so far all of them were worth their money when it comes to gameplay (shame of Crysis 2 and the hordes of cheaters). What really worries me now regarding Crysis 3 is Origin.
If Origin is required I won't buy it, and I'll really miss it. It's already bad enough to give money to the leeches at EA.

Wait, what's that thing doing there? It can't possibly be considered as minimum requirement, that's a low end card from four generations ago and meant for HTPCs...
I mean, for Nvidia they put an 8600, which is much better than a HD3400 and was mid-range back in the day...
Me thinks they meant HD3670, or much more likely HD3870/HD4670.
^ I saw the first vid and I can't differentiate it from Crysis 2. Seriously these people should learn to use version numbers from Valve/Blizzard![]()
