Is there any REAL dif on using dif tim brands ? myth ? reallity ?

    Hey guys

i have ma head exploding of questions regarding this matter

i have friends reporting that using for ex diamond temps reduced 4C and telling histories that they have better results using the best tim than adding another rad with extra fan wich inmo is myth

so whats your opinions guys ?

    Cheers

Looks like there can be up to a ~6c difference between the best and worst.

when using extreme cooling there is a a difference as it can determine how low you can eventually get the CPU IHS temp.

Air/water? a small difference, I use IC7 diamond sometimes, but you have to heat it up before you apply it.

+1 for mx2, it is cheap and spreads easy while still being close to the newer stuff.

MX4 is nice regarding the performance, ease of use and price. I use it over a year and I'm completely satisfied with it.

I have used the ic7 diamond, as3, as4, as5, as ceramique, ocz freeze, mx2. I find the mx2 to be easily the best value and easiest to work with, applying and cleaning.

I always used AS5 more from habit than anything else.
Then maybe 3 years ago tried the IC Diamond and across the board a solid 3-4C drop in temps.
Yes, it is abrasive and yes it will slowly over time erase the markings on the IHS but non issue to me.
Putting it on a pair of E5-2687W's today and those bastages are worth LOTS more than any desktop cpu's..
    Try $3800.00/pair!

If I expect to do quick testing then mx2 or mx4 seem to be the easiest to use and get good results. If I want best results then IC Diamond is great provided you can get good pressure where it is needed ... in the center if ihs. Most 1155 sb's seem to have an uneven ihs where the edges are high so either lapping or a cooling block with some bow in it work best in this instance. I hear that the problem is less pronounced on skt 2011

i like the IC7 diamond b/c its cheap. Its like $7 for a tube, the stuff i use for LN2 is like 50% more than that.

I've been using shin etsu 7783d for awhile now.

Forget all this spreading stuff. Drop a pea sized dot in the middle of my IHS, mount my cooler and forget about it. Consistent best in class performance across poor, medium, and great contact.

People complain it's hard to spread, but that's exactly it. You don't need to spread it because the pressure from mounting your cooler is sufficient, and the performance difference between great contact and poor contact is negligible. Not to mention that at poor contact it still outperforms all but the select best out there.

no the diamond is hard to spread, so i just use a heat gun heat it up and then put the cooler down and press.

All the top brand name are almost the same , only 1~2C difference, but i think people prefer one than other due to easy to use ( spread ) and easy to clean.

I use Thermalright Chill Factor III - small blob in middle and l then a few twists and let the pressure of the heatsink spread it, works every time.

By and large I think different TIM temp differences can be put down to the application. We all know if we get the perfect application it can be cooler vs. a previous application attempt. So with that in mind, personally I don't see the point in spending craploads on TIM, I stick with AS Ceramique or MX4.
