6850 crossfire full screen bsod 3B

Can't figure this one out atm.

Crossfire disabled runs everything fine, Computers also memtest86+ and prime95 stable, OCCT GPU 3D Test.

Crossfire enabled will only run in window mode fine, fullscreen will BSOD 3B atikmdag.sys.

Tried going back to stock settings, Fresh win7 install with all the updates, 12.2 , 3 and 4 beta CAT Drivers. I tried all the games i have atm Dirt3 and skyrim, both work windowed but not fullscreen, same with 3dmark vantage, OCCT runs fine as well. Perhaps being older cards i should use say cat 11's or something? Motherboard is Asrock extreme 3 gen 3 with latest bios, also have latest chipset drivers.

    Using CAP's? http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...-profiles.aspx

But yea, never hurts to try older drivers, and try both cards alone to make sure non of them are busted.

yeh ive installed CAPS, are the game profiles ment to show in CCC under 3D application settings? Cause it just says new application and nothing in the dropdown list.

Will try the new video card by itself.

ok tried 11.8 drivers same deal also ran through driver cleaner, also read that power saving can cause issues, changed the registry settings EnableUlps to 0 all cards are both cards are now running at full speed at idle, but has made no difference.

Retested both cards by themselves in both slots and work fine
reset all bios settings and put everything back to stock
    tried another hard drive
tried reflashing both card's bios's to different versions, both different on each card and the same.

Attached is the dump when it crashes, ive used bluescreenview to have a look but just points to it being caused by atikmdag.sys+216de9

went through my disks and only had winxp 32bit to try, so got that on, im getting a Stop 8E ATIMTAG.SYS which is different. Though interesting now when i open up GPUZ it says crossfire is disabled but is available, even though it says it's enabled in CCC. Any ideas? I might have a play with the bridge.

ok i have found half the problem, something to do with my main dell monitor U2711. i am back on win7x64 with the latest drivers, with crossfire enabled and extended monitor if i have say dirt3 open in a window and drag across to the second monitor then alt enter and make it fullscreen on the second monitor it works!! even ran the benchmark to confirm the frame rate has doubled. I will now just try connecting my second monitor as the main screen and see if it work straight away, my dell uses a dual link dvi for 2560x1440 wonder if it's something to do with that, i did try the dell at 1920x1200 same as my second screen the Acer AL2616W but no luck.

ok well, tried all configs, dell as secondary acer as primary, both on left and right and doesn't like it, tried swapping the video cards around didn't like it, tried the dell at lower resolutions, even with hdmi and displayport, even tried 2 monitor eyeinfinity, so atm the only way to use crossfire is run it on the extended monitor and only the acer monitor. :/

Also it seems that it could be a screen refresh issue, going full screen on the second monitor just goes fullscreen, going fullscreen on the main monitor flickers and resets/refreshes both screens then crashes.

ok ive tested a few more things,

    12.4 beta no change
As Extended Desktop Run the game in window and make it full on the second display, then go into CCC and swap the displays, it works and the game runs fine on the Dell
Setup a Eyeinfinity Group it works fine! although not practical with my monitors
Also tried playing with TDR settings and timeouts no change.

So to summerize where im at.

    Single Display = 3B Crash
Extended Monitors = Crash on Primary, Works on Secondary, Works on Primary if started on Secondary then swapped.
    Eyeinfinity = Works

ive sent emails off to AMD and Amaze who makes the cards to see what they say, got a reply from both, amaze said bios's shouldn't affect crossfire at all even if there different versions. AMD didn't read my email or this thread that i pointed them to, just got the usual run, so waiting for replys again.

stupid question, but are you sure your power supply can handle the current draw of both cards at 3d speeds?

it's a 650watt Silverstone Zeus so should be enough, even so i can play for hours in eyeinfinity mode or on the second display in extended mode, run furmark etc etc so to me that would rule out psu?

ive sent reports off to amd to see what they say.

Atm the only other thing i can think of is card bios issues, my old card has a 64k bios the new one is 128k, perhaps even with the same version there is code missing for crossfire on the 64k bios? i have ordered a 1Mbit SPI flash chip which i will put on the old card and hopefully i can load up a 128k rom the same as the first card.

I'm not sure BIOS has anything to do with it. if crossfire is enabled, then it's running, period. the desktop and everything else is rendered in crossfire. however, you say that going fullscreen in games BSODs.

i can play for hours in eyeinfinity mode or on the second display in extended mode, run furmark etc
are you running them fullscreen? if not, try running them fullscreen. if it crashes, it's power related.

I'd recommend swapping in a different PSU also.

yes running everything fullscreen as crossfire doesn't work in window mode.

Eyeinfinity in fullscreen runs fine, 2nd display fullscreen in extended mode runs fine, it's just the primary display in either extended or single monitor mode, the display flickers as it goes to fullscreen for a second then bsod, it doesn't flicker in the other modes when going fullscreen, it's like a refresh bug or something, it's always when going to fullscreen, i wouldn't think it's the psu though will try another as i can play for hours fullscreen in eyeinfinity, furmark, 3dmark etc etc i am bringing another monitor home from work to try, just standard 17" 1280x1024 to try in single mode and see if it makes a difference.

well tried another monitor, didn't like that, tried the new beta 2.03 asrock bios, no change, though the new bios looks very nice. Got another email from AMD asking if i tried with iGPU off which i have, but non the less did another fresh install on my other hard drive with igpu off but no change. Decided to order another 6850 same as my new one, i got a 1Mbit SPI flash chip and soldered it to my old card, atiflash finds the chip and i can flash up 128k bios's now, it runs on the desktop after getting into windows for a little while but then i get GSOD's, so will try a new second card, that way there definatly identical with exactly the same bios.

well got a new second card in same as the last new i bought, it now works perfectly in all games in all modes. So looks like my old card has some issues with crossfire, perhaps because it's a first release type with 64k bios. I dont know.
