Buy a 2500K for $209 today or wait until price drop w/ Ivy Bridge?

    Gentlemen,

I have an internal struggle going on right now. Part of me wants to buy an i5-2500K($204.99) w/ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3($209.99) today. The other part wants to wait until Ivy Bridge is released and see if there will be any price drops. You see, my AMD system suffered a failure when a solid capacitor caught fire. I am now computing on a 3.4Ghz Pentium 4 dual core which heats up if I watch youtube, let alone try to play some games. If you were me, would you buy today (the 2500K sale ends today on Newegg), or wait until Ivy B for the Sandy B prices to drop (if they even drop...this is Intel folks)?

Are we certain Intel won't price-rape us with Ivy?

Binning Ivy will be more intricate than SB especially if no cold bug on retail chip (too)....probly "used / for sale" chip will be really bad ones

Yeah you can't expect to find a cheap 4.8ghz 2500k but most of them will do 4.4ghz-4.6ghz below 1.4v.

We'll see in about 3 weeks

Imo, Ivy on air probly won't be the same like SB in term of low Vcore (whent it comes to 5Ghz stable), but more about how to make Samsung YK0 30nm run like Gskill 2666 @ 2800

I do happen to live in Houston. I just have tons of credit with Newegg I can afford to use.

I would save it for something else, and at least get the cpu at Microcenter, even with tax it will be cheaper and you get instant gratification instead of waiting

Plus they should have a bundle where you save $50 if you buy a cpu and mb, so if this combo applies an even better deal (might be 2600k only not sure atm).

Wait a few weeks, MC might also have some 2600k deals if IB prices are too high.

It seems like a 3570K may be in my future. Now I've also heard that Intel's new 22nm process may not yield Sandy Bridge-like overclocking experiences. What are y'all's thoughts on this?

    2600K at Microcenter for $199.99!!!!!!!!!

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ht=microcenter

Guys...I don't think I can wait for Ivy Bridge. I mean, I'll get an Asus Z77 V-PRO motherboard and maybe go IB later, but this is too good to pass up. Can any of you think of a reason not to buy this?!

MicroCenter may come right out of the gate and offer the 3770K for a deep discount to MSRP on May 1st.

They did that when the i7 920s came out on opening day, selling them for $199 when every where else was $299-$309

...but a 2600K is guaranteed performance at $199.99. I can't count on a 3770K being that cheap on day 1.

Dammit! Microcenter's site won't let me log in! I can't reserve my 2600K.
