    Data Recovery

Store bought 6 year old HP computer died and cannot find a replacement MB. The HD is good and have already transferred the easy stuff (Documents, Music, Pictures) to a new W7 box. The problem is recovering the data from other programs like Intuit Quickbooks, Microsoft Money, Quicken Firefox and Outlook express.

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

Each of those programs use a database file that can be copied and/or imported to a new computer.

Googling each will show where to find said database files.

Thanks Bun-Bun. Got a couple of them working so far and thanks for not preaching about Backups haha. It's actually not my computer. I have not owned a store bought computer in 10 year, just never had to recover those kinds of files.
    Thanks again.

No problem. A good idea though when a computer comes in like that is to make an image of the drive first in case something goes wrong.

Sometimes I switch the HD over to another PC with a MoBo of the same make and chip set as the old one. Most times the PC will boot into Windows and you can have access to the programes and data, you can usually find a export option. I think that is what you need for Outlook.

Ya, if it wasn't a store bought HP and 6 years old that might work. Since there is no Outlook Express for W7 I stuck the data in Windows Live Mail and it came up.
I told him he was lucky it lasted more than 5 years. Already had a PS replacement.
