Which CPU do upgrade to? Crosshair V Formula

This might sound like a silly question. I have a Asus Crosshair V Formula with 16GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 Ram, 128 GB SSD, and 1 HD7970. I am currently running a Phenom II X4 965. I am considering in the future to add a second HD7970, like sometime this fall or late summer. I planning to liquid cool, and if I am going to liquid cool I might as well have the best CPU for the board. I have looked at the 8-Cores a bit, but am not sure if I should get one, since well its not preforming as well as it should, and I heard rumors that it doesn't play good with Crossfire or SLI cards. Now all this I am hearing is from Oct 2011, and wondering if things have changed.

Are new CPUs comming out for AM3+ or are 8-core Bulldozer the "best" that are out there?

Are the bios and drivers updated to where things should be stable, stock or perhaps a mild OC?

What OC can I look at with this board and a possible 8-Core under water?

2nd gen FX cpu's "Piledriver" will come in september/october compatible with AM3+.

If you wanna upgrade now, 8120 is a nice option or the new 8140 wich is a 95w 3.2Ghz chip (available this month).

I got a FX 4170. They had it at the Egg for $140 and with a promo code it was down to $130 with free shipping. (Might not be here till Thursday) I decided on the 4170 a I don't know that I need more than one core, let alone eight and this one was faster before OC'ing
So I like it and it's not too expensive that yue can't get the next good thing out six months from now. My system will be similar in many ways, not quite as front line as yours. I do have a 1090T in my current machine and I have been luke cool toward the six core.

Locally I bought a Gigabyte FXA 990FX UD7 Motherboard. I did zero research on it, just bought Gigabyte because my last board was Gigabyte and it did not frustrate me. After I ordered it I thought maybe I should have bought a Crosshair or looked at MSI, but oh well this should work.
I got a Coolermaster 1200W PSU and HAF 932 case
2 X 8 DDR1600 Ballistix, Crucial 256 SSD, WD Black Terabyte Drive, Samsung Bluray reader / DVD Burner. Win 7 Ultimate 64, some more software, new joystick......
    And a XFX Black 7970

I won't have it all till the end of the week as I'm off doing work. (Hate that but all this stuff is a little pricey) and then there's electricity too.

    1. Piledriver is scheduled for later this year

    2. Your board AFAIK do not have any major known issues with BD

    3. 4500-5000mhz, very much depends on the chip. Dont bother with FX if you intend to run it stock. Get an Phenom II x6 in that case or stick with your 965 until Piledriver arrives.

yah im kinda in the same boat...(check my sig)

i know a fx-8120 wont be all that faster, but the prospects of OC'in bulldozer are enticing enough that i wanna pick one up (fx-8120) and added that u can OC the IMC aka memory to 2200+

id say either a X6 (1100t or 1090t) if u can find one...try ebay or get an fx-8120 and have fun OC'ing it and OC memory as well.

judging by the early tests of A10-5800k over in the piledriver forum...10% increase in CPU, doesnt look all that great.

Just like the FX-8150 vs 8120, for most air/water users and even guys on LN2, 1090T is the better option over 1100T especially if you can get it very much cheaper.
