I've been checking prices on Newegg for a while now and they've got a couple 7970's available for $410 after rebate / 7950's available for $320 after rebate / 7870's available for $270 after rebate / 7850's for $210 after rebate.

Yes, I love competition as well :-)

Price should have been like this in the first place.

I kind of feel AMD 7xxx should have been price like this with maybe 20 bucks more in the first place. With Nvidia taking marketshare lead in the 79xx vs gtx 680 (on steam hardware .50% vs 74%[not completely accurate being steam hardware but does show trends] )while being on the market half as long, I feel AMD should have been more aggressive on pricing like they were with the 5870. I think the high pricing left too many fence sitters on the market and I think the market warning of 11% drop will also show this. The high price also made it too easy for NV to look good in reviews. The gtx doesn't even perform that well for a next generation on a new process, but the increased pricing from AMD and completely unaggressive clocks make it look great, even at $499(which is too high for this size of a chip in the first place).

I really hope AMD makes a bigger chip next generation, especially considering that it is adding more computing functions on to their chips which take away from gaming performance. With gk110 specs showing it to be a monster, I hope AMD builds big to so they can justify their high cost next time and not need to price drop which punishes the early adopter.

Those prices make the 7970 pretty competitive on a performance per dollar basis only, but I'd grab a 670 for $50 more than the 7950 personally. (even if I was in the AMD Focus Group)

I suppose if those are MSRP the retail will be lower and that card for $330 is a pretty good deal. (shrugs)

Well, at 1920x1080 8xAA+16xAF the GTX 670 is about 7% faster than the HD 7950 but has less VRAM and a than 10% higher price. So yes, the HD 7950 is the better deal.

Resolutions aren't the only way to max out a card's VRAM.

Hah, figures, I just got a 7950 and now the prices are set to drop. Though I did get mine at a good price anyway (was on sale).

Very true, you can crank up the AA for tiny differences in IQ, or ruin bootleg texture packs!

Hmmm..looks like I may step up for a 7850 myself. AMD/ATI have a bit of a price gap between the 7770 and 7850, over $100 difference...they need one in the $150-$180 range imo. Like my sig implies, I go by the 'best bang for the buck' policy.

sell out here in sweden by one reseller, to empty their storage.
I assume due to the GHZ editio.
for me, its almost half the price vs release, and did beat the 670 and 680 by miles in price here.
couldnt be happier with the purchase.
