Looks as though they have also started a beta run for a new CPU Cancer Project.
Saw some new W.U's this morning for the first time, at least I think this is a Cancer Beta?
3/16/2012 12:57:38 AM | World Community Grid | Computation for task BETA_X0000132760857201202241107_0 finished.

From the log BOINC gives me the following information for my Video Card.

    3/13/2012 10:22:31 PM | | ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD 4700/4800 (RV740/RV770) (CAL version 1.4.1703, 1024MB, 1360 GFLOPS peak)

How many Gflops are being produced by some of the cards for people that have been able to run the GPU Beta?

Mac and Linux will have our chance, we just need a little patience.

Ok perhaps a lot, but our beta units will come eventually.

Ok, my question seems to have a final answer: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.or...d,32834#369305

This Beta requires Compute Capacity 1.2. This disappoints me as nothing I have will run it but at least we know where we stand.

I'm disappointed the 4800 series cards have been excluded.

i know im in the wrong forum i was looking for stats from the GPUGrid on those cards 550ti and up.
i just wanted to get an idea what the performance hit on those cards are on PPD.

im not sure what app they are going with so im going to wait before i buy ati or nvidia cards,ty in advance.
I don't have a ton of information on the 5 series as the team didn't respond much when I asked for stats, but I know my 460 does ~90k PPD and believe the 560 is only slightly higher because of the higher clock speed. My 570 on the other hand regularly nets 160K PPD. (both of these are at stock clocks)

It's really kinda sad cuz even my old 260s with a nice overclock did 70k, so the 460 wasn't much of a step up (although it does run cooler than the 260)

As soon as this thing goes mainstream we'll have to put some numbers together. I can offer up stats on a 570 and a 460 for sure... and I'll compile a list with the clock/points/gflops/card info just like we did on the GPUGrid for the 200 series. (Tried for the 4xx and 5xx but didn't get enough responses - we can only do this if we have the numbers!)

24 hour prime stable? Please, I'm 24/7/365 WCG stable!

So you can do Furmark, Can you Grid???

This might be a stupid question, but would the new HCC WUs run on a AMD Llano? Has anyone tested that?

Not a stupid question, but at the moment they only run on discrete cards.

Sooo... do they actually have work to send out? I created a separate profile for my 3960x rig with a 7970. I checked the boxes to receive beta work and allow work for the gpu. I'm currently crunching 12 threads of HCC. I have no errored WUs for this rig. GPU usage has never gone over 5 %. It hasn't even attempted a WU. Do I have to install the latest Boinc beta software too? Install a separate GPU app? Instructions as posted don't seem to work. TIA.

Edit: If this is at all like F@H with ATI, I'd have to limit crunching to 11 cores and leave on free for the gpu. Is this beta capable of that?

What I think happenned is they set up a pool of them not really knowing what the reaction would be and got blasted immediately and by the time the "slowpokes" like you and me got set up they were gone..
Just made a post over there, a sympathy post, wondering why I haven't seen any!

This is MM's idea of a sympathy post.

Ok, I need a question answered:
Who do I need to write to to get at least ONE of these GPU units sent to me?
I'm starting to feel like the red headed stepchild out here in New Hampshire.
I mean heck, we do bathe daily like the rest of you, don't beat our wives or children and do have at least a few of the social graces!

MM if you have another mother board not in use or a machine that you can set up and run beta only you got a better chance of getting beta
gpu wu. i got a couple of gpu WU that way.

so maybe the red headed step child may get a few WU

    Interesting thought..
I wonder what would happen if I stuck a GTX570 in Sammy?

    I have a GTX580...

but I don't want to crunch with it. Too much heat for my poor computer...

Why can't CPU's be better at this... lol

I have a GTX560 too in my HTPC but again... too much heat... blah. I have one cruncher with good ventilation. Maybe I will put the GTX560 in there as I barely use it in the HTPC.

Im all for just cpu crunching it less power of the wall than gpus also less heat.

But if WCG goes with the gpu set up then im ready for it,

IF they decide not to use gpus then i will stay with Stoneageman on the donate@home project or put my cards on the gpugrid again.either way we all win.

    in any of those projects,
