it has pure digital out... why would you use a soundcard over a quality DAC or digital reciever?

    1. I already have the Essence STX and its great.
    2. I DO use the digital out to my reciever, the analog out is used for headphones
    3. Why would i want external when my Essence stx does all i need, external complicates things, takes up more space and more wires.
(I switch between pcm for music and dolby digital for games and stuff in software...)

(if i would use a external dac, i probably wouldnt buy the essence one.)

Kindofa stupid post in response to a ITX board. ITX has always had and will alwyas only have 1 PCI(e) slot.
And isent it possible to use a x1 card in a x16 slot? Either way, you cant have both and you know it...

Then my good man, where are you going to put the graphic card?

I am with everyone else though, USB DAC.

Mini-ITX is great honestly, suddenly one can build a decent compact computer without dealing with proprietary "Shuttle/Aopen"-Cube MB.
The last 3 custom builds I have done for my workstation, my fathers workstation and a friends all around computer have been mini-ITX. Much smaller, not really cheaper, but the size is awesome and there are quite a lot of decent cases for them. However they often use sheit non 80-Plus PSU's which are noisy.

    My friends all around computer which I put together. i3-2100 | 6950 2GB | 64GB SSD 2.5" | 1TB HDD 3.5" | Blu-ray slim drive | 8GB RAM |
It all fit perfectly together, but takes a bit more time to put together than normal ATX builds. The PSU is 450W, and you can actually fit a larger graphic card in there, there was ~20mm free space at the other end.

There is a longer version of this case as well, with a 600W power supply and a bit different interior. (Silverstone Sugo SG08)

You kinda missed my point, The board seemes so well built and equpped that i easily could have used it in my main rig if it had 2 pci-e slots. I dont need a board so small for that, its just that i could if.... well you get my point (i hope)

Edit: It was a compliment to the board(eh to Asus), i am impressed!

SG07/SG08 would be awesome for this setup.

Room for decent air coolers (if you don't mind downward facing sinks cooled by the top 180mm fan)
    600w PSU (handled up to a 6990)
    Holds dual gpu cards
    Hold 1 3.5" and 2 2.5" HDD/SSD.
    Good ventilation.

I like mine VERY much. Just make sure you buy a video card that exhausts air to the rear (and not one that exhausts air back into the case).

I am unable to give you any solid numbers, but I would say the total package is a bit more noisy than your average ATX build. Keep in mind though they are delivered with 80-plus PSU's which are more than ok at most power consumptions.

I've had my SG07 for a good while now and it's 600W PSU is far quieter than my old Silverstone 850 and Gigabyte 850w PSU's in my ATX systems.
The PSU in here can also easily handle dual gpu cards like the 6990.

OT: This board looks perfect, I really like that the cpu socket is finally in the centre of the board and not near the PCI-E slot. Means I can get rid of my intel stock cooler and not be so limite on decent air coolers.

Although I like my little Asrock Z68M-ITX/HT which only set me back €115.

Wow, this board would be perfect for a little folding machine! Do you guys think the Thermalright MST-140 or AXP-140 RT coolers would fit this board with the digital VRM sitting the way it is?

I can show pics of various coolers on the board after NDA lift and some benches that will embarrass competing boards.

I never noticed the PSU fan when I was running my gtx 470 & i5 760, both OC'd. The 180mm is fairy quiet (not silent) on low, and provides an audible "woosh" noise on the high setting. I used to it 2' away from the case though, so if you had it on the floor or an entertainment center, you probably wouldn't notice it. I have mine under my TV and at 6' away, I can't heart it.

The first PSU in the SG07 died within 6 hours of using it. That SG07 was bought from sundial micro way before larger retailers had the case (basically the day it came out). After waiting 2 weeks for a replacement PSU, I got another 600w and it's been solid ever since. at least 18 months i'd guess. I'm happy with the set up and won't sell the case.

@ the T1 Spider Comment, I own that case too (I have an ITX fetish ) and I love it. It's not for ppl that want to save desk space, but it's a run little case to put together and really displays components. Just don't expect to mount a graphics card to it.

I think high end air coolers will work fine on this board. The VRM looks like its been designed to be short enough to allow space. A pair of Ripjaws-Z would be a little taller it looks like.
