    MSI 7970 Lightning revealed

The awaited MSI HD 7970 Lightning has finally made it out into the light; although we have no specs yet, it looks strong and beefy just like a Lightning should and we expect it to be in the top of the food chain as far as clocks are concerned.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to bench this card without having to use a dremmel tool on the heatsink?

I can't believe how ironic this is considering a few hours ago a friend and I were talking about the lack of Overclocks, Super Overclocks, Lightnings, etc. I hope this lives up to its name, as opposed to clocking like a reference card (I'm looking at you DirectCU II).

There's a serious shortage of Tahiti cores right now so board partners are having issues finding enough for their basic designs let alone overclocked / custom versions.

If only MSI could sweet-talk AMD into selling the cores without shims.......

Card looks good, but Asus DCUII performance has me waiting for MHz before I really care

lolwut? low and mid-end cards have no shims or IHS... they don't crack.

Noobs crack dies. What if a noob doesn't see that the core sits lower than the shim and puts a "normal" aftermarket cooler on it? Zero contact -> dead card.

    Excellent point. MSI mini fail.
