You can get 5 OHM multiturn vr from bourns and other companys and if you use 20k ohm you have tu turn 98% before there is happenig something and then it shorts out fast

The voltages for the GPU and memory can easily be set with various software. My real interest lies in disabling the OverCurrent Protection. Is that simply shorting that solder island or does it need a vr as well?

Yes but not if you wil go higher than 1.3v and the mem v dosent change when you set it with software out there and you just solder the to pads toghter but it is only for dice and ln2 on air/water it dosent help

ok so with a 7970 dc2t that does 1204mhz max at 1181mv gpu temp ~30-40c when extra v doesnt help and 1.3v makes it less stable you think that there is no hope for it?
might see if i can find three vr close enough to 20 ohm in au and try my luck anyway
thanks again its always nice to hear from someone else that has tried it first

The vmem and vddic i havent checked for now so dont use a 20ohm for that use a 20k ohm and turn it down to the voltage rises and the un solder an neasurer the vr

I'm sorry but I didn't spot any reply to my question. How do I disable the OCP? Just short that island to ground or have some vr between that island and ground?

You connect the 2 solder pads but why do you want to disable the ocp when i first kicks in at high voltage and mhz

    ok thanks
i have a 10k and 20k vr laying around so i will start with one of them on the pll

    edit http://kingpincooling.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1664

pll resistance measured as 147 ohm but i was unable to get a reading from vmem or vcore

    edit 2:
soldered a 10k vr to ground on the pll and its gone from 887mv to 897mv now to see if it helps
tried up to 950mv but it didnt make any difference still locking up when i try ~1225-1250mhz
so i have removed the mod guess i will just have to make do with ~1200mhz max

first gpu i have ever owned that hasnt responded at all to water\extra v is kinda disappointing

removed the vr with it at 925mv at which point the vr was set to 2.95k

I noticed the other day on NewEgg that the CU2 7970 they carry isn't clocked at1000Mhz but is at the reference clock of 925Mhz. Did Asus revamp the card?

I think it must've been reduced in rank so that the Matrix cards will be the new king soon. The reason for dropping the freq is possibly because they can't get the Matrix cards to run significantly higher.

Are you checking the log after you do a bench? Voltages at 2D settings are lower than when the card ramps up for 3D. Do a quick bench and when you get back to the desktop check the history in Afterburner.

Thanks for you answer! But, the memory voltage 1.600mV steadily in 2D and 3D.
I've done money-back and look forward to the next card. Hopefully no problems will!

    P.S.
    Sorry my English

probable noob question, how are you guys adjusting the voltages, i've got the 925 version and nothing, GPU tweak lets me go from 1176mV to 1183mV which seems pretty pointless and afterburner is greyed out after enable unofficial OC tweak?

looks like this card does not let you tweak the voltage using software.

lots of owners complaining, no answers from asus.

Anyone know what is going on?

with the 7970 top you can only change the gpu v not the mem mine is locked at 1.6v too when measured with the multimeter moving the memv slider made no difference but then the mem can do 1800-1900mhz with stock v
im fairly sure newer versions of afterburner and trix dont have a memv slider for the 7970 cu2t anymore
i have spotted an number of people with the non top cu2 say they are unable to change the gpu v with software but beyond that i cant help

it seems i managed to fry mine already

    received it on friday
played diablo III and was kicking ass
screen goes black, i'm like ok well let's restart the damn system
it loads up to windows loading screen, then halts
do the restart again and now screen stays blank and VGA led burns red in my CH V

should i RMA this one and get back to nvidia or try again with the same card?

also vendors should send their stuff to me for testing, it looks i'm good at breaking things

did not even get to overclock it (was waiting for the active DP to DVI converter so i can get some eyefinity action going)

edit: plugged it in again and now it works, this card is a weird one
    edit2: nope, card is broken

never managed to get this card over 55c and my room temp is abysmal 30c
