Question Laptop Video Encoding: Intel or AMD?

I have a friend who needs a new laptop for two things: Sims 3 & video encoding (not sure which program).

Both cpu/gpu combos will run Sims 3 fine.

My real concern is video editing. Will there be a great enough difference between an AMD quadcore @ 1.4ghz (or 2.3ghz turbo) and the i3 2330m to actually pick the Intel over the AMD?

They will be about equal as far as video encoding goes IMO, I'd just go with the AMD with the better GPU.

    Thanks.

There's not a lot of info out there on the mobile front and you'd think video encoding would be a standard benchmark. I still find it out I can't find much of anything.

the i3 dose not support the good intel encoder, so go amd since its got a better cpu and gpu.

amd also gets better battery when consuming media.

The i3 will be faster by about 15-30% up to 2 threads (since the AMD CPU has turbo at 2.3 vs 2.2 on the i3) but I think 4 threads at 1.4 GHz will at the very least equal the i3's 2 threads at 2.2.

The GPU is more than 50% better so for the task at hand I think the AMD is a no brainer.

Thanks. Ended up with a Toshiba A6-3420m. She's happy with it so far!

Hardware speaking it seem like an easy choice (AMD) but it depends on the software I suppose
