Intel "Ivy Bridge" Core i7-3770K is Capable of 100% Overclock

When it comes to the hardware side, we were shown that the processor excels in performance. We saw the samples of Core i7-3770K going from 3.5 GHz to a massive 7.06 GHz clock. By raising voltage to 1.889 Volts, using 63x multiplier and 112.11 MHz and using dry ice - the 22nm beast passed 7000 MHz.

Umm I thought that was the whole point of this, not to show stability but "suicide" run, pure racing for highest frequency possible without any matter on stability. :P 7GHz+ on dry ice and those volts are still very impressive, just barely stable enough to take a screenshot or not.

Nice! FINALLY some serious overclocking numbers on Ivy, this is what I've been waiting for not the IPC comparisions. We will probably see benchmarks running at quite near 7GHz in future on some very good samples.

Sorry, but there are times when stability at subambient temps is desirable.. you know, those big old wprime runs for example.

HWCANUCKS: stability is OK for 24/7 aircooled or wattercooled system, but this no sense under LN2 overclocking. There is it about records only.

What's surprising ? a 3D transistor can pass much more current through it, so it only makes sense that the CPU can handle more volt and reach very high clock.

If Intel would be smart they'd release a i7-3780X part at 3.6 GHz / 4.0 GHz turbo (possibly with extra cache) BUT with max CPU multi 70x-73x for like MSRP $549. Some people would buy for sure, not me but at least some... :P
