    Need some help

I have a old Msi 965 platium board, with a pentium 4 661 3.6 ghz, and a ati radeon 4670 1gb video card, 2 gigs of ddr2 800, i just upgraded my internet speed to 11.5 mps. Here is the problem, i can watch netflix hd pretty good, i can watch alot of youtube 1080p hd videos, but most are choppy, and my cpu is at 95%, but some videos its only at 50%. If i get a core 2 duo will that fix my problems, what do u guys suggest ?

Yes it will fix your problem. But honestly, why upgrade to a Core 2 Duo? IT will cost you like $110, or you can have a whole new small form factor PC with 8GB of RAM and a SSD running a much better processor for $380. Its kinda pointless to spend money on something so old and slow. You can upgrade it if you want, but it will still be a slow computer.

    Nvidia GTX 670

Well if i had $380 i would do it, but i dont, i can pickup a core 2 duo e6750 for $45 off ebay. I would not pay $110 for a processor that old, im talking used.

A core 2 duo should have zero issues. I have an atom for my HTPC and with hardware acceleration it rips through 1080p video. And that is with 7 ultimate running under XBMC.

Good to hear, yeah i think if i get the core 2 duo i should be fine, my pentium 4 661 just cant handle it, sometimes its ok, sometimes its at 100% use.

Some netbooks have problems with full HD playback as well, and it sounds like your desktop is in the same boat. You clearly don't lack video power, but processing power like already mentioned... good luck!

    What codecs are you running?

Verify that you have the AMD Media Codec Package installed (formerly called Avivo)

Make sure you have enabled 'UVD' (Unified Video Decoder) or 'ATI Mpeg Decoder'

If that doesn't work, yeah, it's your CPU.

youtube buffers with 1080p and it cuts the bitrate down to near the 720p so there is no real point in using it. i would try using html5 (u can switch at www.youtube.com/html5 ). if you want to try streaming 1080 try netflix but 720p is standard now to avoid buffering.
