    Question Swiftech Apogee HD instructions?

    http://www.swiftech.com/Installation-Guides.aspx

...are there any? I don't see them. I'm also specifically looking for instructions for LGA 2011. I can see on the product page there's a special kit for LGA 2011, but so far no way on how's installed (and no, I don't own the kit yet, I'm planning ahead and trying to see how different waterblocks are installed).

    Thanks.

You need to scroll to the bottom of the product page where there are 3 pdf links.

    Got it, thanks Waterlogged.

Does the Apogee HD LGA 2011 instructions reference the use of the Swiftech backplate? The updated XSPC Raystorm instructions I saw mention a switched set of screws which screw into the top of the board without the use of any XSPC supplied backplate.

Thats how it is with most blocks/heatsinks for 2011, mainly because not all mobos support removing of the socket bracket? I guess it would be the same for Swiftech as well.......

I see. So with LGA 2011, you simply don't use the heatsink/waterblock manufacturer's backplate and use the one built into the board? ...and simply screw the heatsink/block on the top of the board without going under the board? That would make installation quite simple if the board were already installed in a case. Thanks.

I believe 2011 come with an integrated plate, this is what all the block makers are tying into. The reason you need a different set of screws is to make sure they 1) are the right length for the mounting mechanism and 2) have the proper threads.

That's what I thought. What confused me was XSPC Raystorm's instructions start by saying their backplate is for 2011 & 1366! If it's common that 2011 has a built-in backplate, why would they label their own backplate for use with 2011? Maybe some 2011 boards don't come with a backplate.

Well, I just took a look through the selection that Newegg has, and the only boards that look like they might allow swapping the back plate are the full sized Asus Rampage boards (this obviously excludes the Gene being a mATX), everything else seemed to have the 2 part version that the LGA2011 spec likely calls for.
