Exaclty what I think. Though I would like to find a reference cooled one..you know inside a Fractal R3 you need an exaust directly on the video card.
Did anyone find reference ones? Or I might go with a 7970.

The single fan in the middle IS the de facto reference standard. I believe XFX will have a blower style setup on their Black Edition (non-DD) but I have yet to see that card in the retail channel.

But yes Nvidia should spend less time claiming they aren't impressed with Tahiti and more time on releasing cards. They cannot possibly be unimpressed by this 7950's characteristics, and given its overclockability they know that AMD has plenty left if they need to try a bit harder. 800 MHz core speed says AMD hasn't even started trying yet.
You are right but AMD will already have earned their share of money by the time NVIDIA will launch something and by that time AIBs like ASUS and MSI will be ready with their highly overclocked custom cards. So it can be a tough year for NVIDIA.

Those single central cooler cards look rather flimsy. Even if it's enough for stock, overvolting them might prove problematic. Then again it looks like the v2 board has beefier VRM than the nonexistant reference?

I'll be holding off until Nvidia releases their cards.

Just too rich for my tastes at the moment. I want a card that'll last me a good while at 2560x1440.

I had a feeling that would be the case but had to ask.

Now I just have to wait for Pitcairn to see what would be better for me, 7870 or 7950, or if Nvidia will have something even better.

Do you have any info on 1,5GB 7900 cards? A simple "I can't talk about that" is enough

They need time to build stock, while not killing 3Gb 7950 sales.
I would expect them to release a 1.5Gb version sometime this summer hopefully before the end of Q2 or possibly sooner if it is needed to respond to the competition.

Finally, note that according to AMD, a 1.5 GB version of the Radeon HD 7950 is expected to arrive within weeks.

"Weeks", interesting. Let's see how it goes. No way in hell I'm paying what this card costs right now.

So its about the price of a GTX580 for about the same performance that you could have had a year ago with more features. I can see why 7950 might be good for eyefinity or 2560x1600 users but for 3d users like myself or 120hz 1080p users or 1920x1200 users I think that GTX580 might actually be the better option. This card should have been $400 imo. I'm completely unimpressed.

I'm not sure that I get your point. You could have paid $50 more than 7950 is going for or less probably for the same performance a year ago with more features.

That is, if a year ago 580 was only $450, but it launched @$550...so no, you weren't paying less or the same if you got it a year ago. Nvidia doesn't do anyone favors when it comes to price, the only time i remember getting a deal from them is back in the TNT days with voodoo cards costing double of Nvidia.

Also, if someone were in a market for a vid card today, why not get the more efficient card of the two? 7950 wins at all three angles, performance, power/watt, and cooling/quietness. When is the last time nvidia gets all three right? So unless you really hate AMD drivers(some do) the choice is fairly obvious.

Come on,all your gtx 580 are obsoletes!!!!(I am looking for a second one to sli my micro atx computer). The big true about 7950 is that is lost in price.GtX 580 is too cloose in price and performance.Renembering I am a gamer not a bencher in Battlefield3 the differences are really small.I know it will rise with better drivers etc etc.Nut it still will leak of 3DVision and PhysX.Both cards are overpowered for actual normal games.
And i think AMD ATi is reserving bullets for when kepler arrives...so overpowered in games and uncertain stupid face when the real deasl will rise in 4 months or so.Two good reasons for not getting new vga cards right now.
It is a pėtty because 7950 is a very good VGA at a very very bad moment I think.

Have you used GTX580 or 570? They run cool and quiet, 6970 is the louder card actually. When you're looking at a $500 video card since when does $20 in power savings a year matter? I always get a kick out of that. You do make a good point about GTX580 launching at $550 but its been retailing for well under $500 for months now. At the end of the day it is the more feature rich card. I like playing Skyrim with good performance in 3d with AO. Nvidia cards tend to perform a bit more reliably. They just tend to perform well in a wider array of games. I loved 6950 crossfire. It impressed me, great price vs performance option. Personally if price and performance is close like most people I'm always going to pick Nvidia due to the software support. I am always disappointed when a new line up launches that doesn't effect the price vs performance bar one bit.

If I were an eyefinity or really high resolution user I would be far more interested in one of these cards. Thats where they really seem to shine.

I'm running a 580 atm actually, is watercooled but i won't claim it being more cool, quiet, less power than a 7950 at stock...which is what i thought is the comparison you're trying to make(how you can get the same card a YEAR ago...etc) not the 6970. I'm not a fan of the new AMD price either, but at the same time if i were to buy a $450 card now, my choice would be on the 7950 for the reason i stated.
