Techpowerup has the a reference turbine style blower while everything else I've seen are center fans.

Powercolor Dual Fan is looking very nice and quiet.

They'll milk this card(and 7970 and others?) til they've got a serious reason to bring its price down. Because AMD needs to, and they can.

As was mentioned in some reviews, this launch will mostly concentrate upon custom cooled versions which will unfortunately lead to some increased SRPs.

Seems like 2012 will be an all AMD year. It would be interesting to see what NVIDIA comes up with.

Well it's still only January so I wouldn't go quite that far yet :p Kepler isn't that far away now, 2-3 months max.

But yes Nvidia should spend less time claiming they aren't impressed with Tahiti and more time on releasing cards. They cannot possibly be unimpressed by this 7950's characteristics, and given its overclockability they know that AMD has plenty left if they need to try a bit harder. 800 MHz core speed says AMD hasn't even started trying yet.

2/3 months at least for the high end part!

Why would ATI price this card at $400 when GTX 580 is still selling at over $500? NVIDIA are the ones who need to lower the price first.

Personally, I find it well priced. Especially considering its performance vs the GTX 580 and its relative performance to the HD 7970.

pricing is great - just as fast as GTX 580 3gb, quieter, lower powerconsumption, more features and reatiling for 90€ less

Kinda weird no reference cards anywhere.... most of the custom cooled solutions look cheap.

From my understanding THIS is the reference card we will see the most.

i say price needs to come down. this should offer a >10% better perf/price over the 7970, the fact they are basically even makes it almost a worst buy than a 7970.

That cooler's performance is quite good, IMO.
Someone has been hinting that kit is cheaper than the "real reference" while performing better.

82% of the price of a 7970 at 87% of the performance.
I agree, it isn't a huge deal but this is the highend and early on a new process.
Overclocking seems decent, you can slightly pass stock 7970 performance, though depending on your chip's voltage you might have to play with it a little.

    Yes.

Cooler temperatures and roughly the same fan speed noise.

HOWEVER, I don't think the heatsink would hold up all that well once voltage increases for overclocking is factored into the equation.

True. I was looking for that as well in your review.
Sounded like you got that card a bit late and only had time to do minimal testing.
Are you planning on doing a slightly more indepth review of it, like you did for the XFX and Sapphire?

I've always been impressed by HIS reference coolers the most, I wouldn't buy anything else now tbh.

Such a great card, such an horrible price. 7970 revisited. I'll buy one when Sapphire releases one of those awesome dual fan cards with 1,5GB of memory and a $350 price tag
