    Any good, inexpensive tablets?

Do any of you guys have experience with some of the cheaper tablets that are available on the market? Maybe the kindle or some of the other ones that are cheap on Newegg's website? The reason I ask is this semester I am required to read 3 newsletters and a newspaper every day. It would make my life a lot easier if I only had to drag around a small tablet. I think I would also be more comfortable reading on a tablet. Here are my requirements:

    • Ability to check emails
    • Need to be able to read PDF's
    • Easy to read

It would be cool if I could get an android based tablet (so I can root it and customize it), but I'm open to suggestions. Also, price is something I need to keep in mind. I would like to stay ~$100, but if it’s necessary I can go up to $200. Thanks for the help!

Definitely seems interesting, but it seems as though its sold out in the US? Anyone have links to where I can possibly purchase it from (other than Ebay)? The HP website says its sold out.

Bump for more opinions as well!

Do you have a link to Woot? I've been checking out newegg for some refurb models. What I'm leery about is there are a lot of companies that I've never heard of that make the cheaper tablets.

What size requirement are we talking? If you deem it large enough the kindle fire is cheapish ($200), root has been attained and there are roms available.

    +1

I did this to a nook color for testing, the Fire is much more powerful and will most likely suit your needs.

dont buy any product with a tegra, they go unsupported since NV dose not give out proper dev access. they dont support the transformer prime properly and they did not support the tegra 2 correctly (why i have the strongest gpu on a phone but it cannot be used)

Thanks for all the help guys. The Kindle Fire and the HP Touchpad both look nice. I'm keeping an eye out on craigslist + ebay for some good deals. I noticed it looks like the kindle e reader does everything I want (reads pdfs, able to check email, easy to read). The main thing I need to keep in mind is the price. As much as I would like to be able to do cool stuff on it, reading my newsletters + pdf's is the main purpose for this tablet. What do you guys think?

Viewsonic is also about to come out with a new Tablet. It's called the viewpad e70

Looks like it'll be a "low powered" one with only a single 1GHz core, but on the other hand it comes with ICS and @ only about $169.

    Engadget talks about it here.

According to Engadget, it won't be out until March (end of march). Otherwise it looks like a nice tablet

I have a nook color I bought primarily for ereading but found it can do 720p video pretty good so I also use it to watch movies/tv at work sometimes too. I got it when it was $200 but I assume they are cheaper then that now, pretty good device once rooted.
