Very true. Do you have any idea how much perfectly functional memory I have dug out of a big box of random RAM at the recyclers? 95% of it works just fine. I've gotten all my ECC registered memory from there, the memory in my laptop from there (2x2GB DDR2), and a several 1GB and a few 2GB DDR2 sticks. Plus piles of 512MB DDR2 just in case.

Actually, the vast majority of my laptop came from scrap parts at the recycler, the only thing I've actually purchased for it elsewhere was the LCD IBM T60 with a C2D T7200, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD, Radeon X1300... not bad

Not unless it's an actual -E board. Maybe possible to crossflash to the -E model BIOS???

-E denotes DDPM power management, a requirement for Istanbul and recommended for Shanghai. It allows powering down the NB and cores independently. So no, it's not a flash issue. The VRM is redesigned.

I grabbed a pair to replace my workstation (Xeon L5320s) and am hunting a board as well, but I'm thinking one of the 8 DIMM per socket ASUS boards. Since I'll work on mine every day, I'm more willing to pay, but if you guys can get a group deal I'll see if the wife will disburse funds (if you guys need another to make sure you can buy.)

If the seller can assure you that they are -E boards, then they're great boards for the money. They support HT direct access cards as well as IPMI, not that I think anyone here needs that. When I plug the model into Google, Tyan comes back that it's -E. Also, that it has no sound, which lowers its usefulness for my workstation. So unless he's read the wrong model off the boards, yes, it's -E.

That's what soundcards are for Though for crunchers sound doesn't matter. But if you need sound I have an old PCI Audigy I could send to you.

Just noticed it had a spare x8 slot, so I can set it up with sound as I need it. This is replacing my main since it's rather slow compared to what's out there. I just happen to be swimming in Opteron parts, so it's a lot cheaper for me to do this than it might be for others-like I have 20-25 sticks of DDR2 for this setup. When I get my setup working, I'll gladly pass along sticks to get others working as well. Still looking for larger sticks for myself but as I said, mine will be a daily driver. Also, that board will support overclocking with software tools, as it's nForce based. Onboard SAS as well.

Well, if we're buying, I'll get one, so you would need 4 more buyers. Let me know when you would need my money and where to send it.

Just let me know when the board works and i`ll take one. I just need the conformation that the "combo" would work. If we are talking about the cheap boards. (65 dollas)

Sounds good. You sound pretty confident that these boards will work. Are you aware that the 2419 isn't on the official compatibility list? Even though the higher models are..

Chicken! J/k I bet we'll get enough buyers to order one lot. But will we then get enough buyers to buy a second lot so that you can have a board?? Hmm..

2419EE, so standard model should be OK as well. 2419s are a rare OEM model, they're not normally found in the hands of system builders like us. If I remember correctly they were a part that some of the big boys specially requested. I've got a spare quad AND a set of dual-cores so I can test these pretty well.

While I agree that the 2419s should work they will have different microcode than the 2419EE. How confident are you that these boards will run our processors? $300+ confident?

I'm just gonna straight ask Tyan. No better way to know.

Just fired off an e-mail with my old Tyan account, and I'll ask live support tomorrow as well. No sense in not asking at this point. I don't want to waste people's money.

Ok awesome. Let us know what they say. (I'm gonna bet $1 they say if it's not on their compatibility list they can't guarantee anything)

I'm very used to asking about stuff like this, it was no big deal. When I could still work I verified a lot of stuff like this, which is where I got my confidence in the answer from, but there is no harm in checking my homework. I do have a verification on an ASUS board, but it's $229. Big difference right now. We'll see what they send me back.
