Thumbs up CES 2012: Headphones 'made to fit in five minutes'

The in-ear headphones that become a perfect customized fit for you in minutes

    http://www.slashgear.com/eers-sonofi...utes-08207463/
Custom-fit earbuds are one of the best audiophile experiences out there, but sadly restricted because of time or money. Sonomax aims to change at least one of those, with a new system that measures your ears and creates a pair of custom-fit buds in minutes. The Eers device looks like a big pair of DJ headphones, but it’s actually a method of creating perfectly fit earbuds using some interesting new methods

My problem with in-ear headphones is that I become vastly aware of how loudly I breath. :P
I'll stick with my cheap Sony earbuds.

I've had good luck with memory foam.

I like this idea, but it'll never work for my needs. I use a bluetooth headset while riding my bike (yeah, I know it's said to be unsafe) and the foam does allow a good bit of outside noise to enter the ear while riding and I've had no issues hearing cars or almost anything else since I keep the music at an audible level, not blasting.

I do like this idea though if you don't want over the hear headphones. At least someone is thinking. It's a novel idea.
    You must [not] advance.

Once you get used to them, nothing beats in-ear. The isolation is awesome, they are super portable, and they sound great! I'm partial to Shure's - I've got the 530's and smile everytime I use them. The breathing thing was always a bit of a problem with my Etymotic's, but with these & the cord behind your head I hear nothing but the music...

    Not exactly true..
I like in-ear headphones, because they are ultra portable, can provide decent sound quality, and I am not marking myself when listening to music on the fly, it fits in...
BUT as for QUALITY, big open cans are the best - however I personally prefer closed cans, as they have "headphone" feeling to it.

I feel IEM's have really gone a long way. I find that after burn in(yes it really does have an effect), the VSonic GR-07 are quite comparable to my HD598 & HD650; however, the one thing they cant, and probably wont ever be able to replicate is the airy bass-wooshy feel when your ear is cupped around the driver.

As for these made to fit 'phones, I think they were around in the last CES, but from what I remember, the SQ was pretty average..

Currently using Shure SE215 dynamics (previously SE210 and E2C+E2G before that)

But also managed to trial out Unique Melody Miracle's

I came. Definitely something I'm looking to get somewhere down the line. But at >£650+getting ear impressions... they're not exactly cheap. 6 balanced armature speakers in each earphone. So good.

Who makes those and when do they go on market? I'd love some IEM's to compliment my Beyer DT880's, Senn HD-555's, and Koss PortaPro's.

I use the Howard Leight Sync earmuffs. They're basically safety muffs with headphones built in. They sound great, almost as good as noise canceling ones. They are great for cuttin the lawn or workin in da shop. Only like $23 at amazon too. I cant stand in ear h phones, they always fall out with the smallest tug. I got another pair of h phones that fit like the ear buds and also has a loop that just goes around the ear, works perfect.

Not sure, but I'm a big skeptic with their ability to keep up with the Beyer and Senn you have there..

    PS: you de-foamed the 555's I hope

All stock on all headphones. I'm mostly listening to the Beyers now.

He didn't say "best quality". I like the in-ears since they block out noise. I'd rather listen to music with a bit of quality loss than having to turn up the sound loud because the surrounding is too noisy that I can't hear details anyway and just damage my ears instead... Also, most portable devices don't have proper sound decoding anyway (but people who buy +$150 headphones also buy the better mp3-players and probably listen to FLAC or some other lossless codec...).

There are some phenomenal IEM's out there right now, even when it comes to delivering good bass, and they're far more forgiving when it comes to how much amplifier you need to drive them well. The problem with them is that they live and die by how well they seal against your ears. If there's even the slightest opening, your basically kiss the entire bottom-end goodbye, and the mid and high-range are suddenly no better than some $2 ear buds. Which is fine if you remain motionless, but I could never get a consistant seal that would hold up to even a casual walking pace, despite trying over a dozen different tips.

i would say i cared about this, but recently i have found that skullcandy makes some pretty decent ear bud headphones that very snuggly fit in your ear. they are easily the best ear bud headphones and come with replaceable rubber ear buds of different sizes that im sure work for most people.....not the best sounding, but def good enough to hear full sound spectrum in detail, and lay on your side with, when you are a person that listens to music to sleep (me) and doesnt want to bother others.

It's simple to do the foam mod. If you have 5 minutes to kill, it essentially turns them into HD595's, since they share the same driver and near identical housing

The one thing I like about some of the more analytical IEM's is the level of detail they can provide; I usually miss them in some of my more expensive headphones.
Generally, I'll agree with the seal creating a bigger sound, however, the VSonic GR-07 and JVC FX-700 are two good examples of IEM's that can deliver high quality bass without making them feel so closed and limited. I also owned a pair of IE8's for a good time and they are one of the worst at isolation, yet the bass body is quite broad. Some of the higher tier IEM's are very capable of making you feel like you're listening to a full set of cans
