Mach 1 coming soon, how do I modify?

I decided to take the plunge and pickup a Mach 1. I have a few questions which Im sure have been answered before, but I would just like to clarify.

    1. Where do I take the prommie to get it modded for better performance?

    2. What do I ask for at this location? 404 or 507?

    3. How much should I expect to pay for this procedure?

    Thanks

    Chilly1,

If you can answer his question without soliciting business for yourself in open forum, that's fine.
In this case however, it should have been as a PM. This sort of thing is done in the Services thread only.
His questions were general in nature and should not have been turned into a business oppurtunity in open forum.

People who do these mods are not allowed to quote prices in open forum. They can do so by PM or you can talk to refrigeration experts in your local area for prices. You can also check the Services area of the forum to find someone who offers this service.

First of all....what is the 507 mod? Are you talking about just draining it and refilling it with 507 and nothing else? Or changing cap tube length and evap head, fans, hoses, etc?

Well, what benefits do each of those changes give to the Prometeia. How much of a change in load temps would one see in changing from R134a to R507?

Is the stock evap insufficient, or perhaps rendered insufficient if the coolant is changed to R507?

I'm pretty new to the phase-change scene and next week I'll be ordering a Mach I.

    Thanks for any help

LOL....Chilly, CC, Gary, Bowman.....anyone want to explain the different Mods and what they do and if you think they are needed, etc? (....just stay away from quoting your own prices in open forum please.)

    ok...first off......

i get tons of pms ..even now i still get a adverage of 2 per day on doing mods...for the record....i am not doing any at this moment before i start replying..

if you want to know what can be done...read my mods section....i will try and give a brief lowdown on whats possable..

    easiest...from top to bottom.

first..wiring fans up full speed will improve air flow and in some aplications will drop temps pretty good.depending on abeiant room temps.

second is.just charging with another refrigerant..without a cap tube change...this will give you good temps but will flood the lines and not alow the best temps.some of my buds may disagree but that what i have seen.i am not out to make a living or money out of this so i am telling you like it is.
now i know the big question...507 or 404...flip a coin...what can you get easy..that should anser the question..only less than 1/2 a degree diff in temps between the 2.and look..if i thought 507 was better...dont you think i would be using it....?personal prefrence is all...

third is...cap tube change with refrigerant charge...this gives best temps period.i just finished one and reached temps with a P4 running under -50c...all the time folding.this doesnt over load the compressor as much ...letting the compressor stay in a vacuum better...the last one i did was running 8hg under load.only thing is it is harder and more time consuming...each one is slightly diff.butt i always say more pain more gain..

now to your questions...where to take it..well most refirgeration shops can do the second mod chaging the refrigerant out..depending on the shop i would say 2 hours shop time and refrigerant...as far as price....hard to say..anywhere between 100 and 175 us.
pm the guys in the fourm..someone may help you..i send guys to a couple of great techs..on a daily basis.

this is important....and everyone please read.

this forum has rules...and the rules are no solicting busness in the forums period.

    no posting prices for services.

    no offering work for money.

if anyone wants to see a price please pm the guy in question.

the services area is a great place to look for this.

right now captaincascade is the only guy with a services thread...
so i take it he is the only person offering to do work in the forums...

so please vistit the services thread and you can also post in the wanted section...post what you want..someone will offer his sevices or offer you a sale..but as always becarefull..

we have trolhunters trying to keep the area safe..

now just becareful with posting prices in the open forum..because it is going to get inforced alot tighter now.and i hate to see someone get offically warned,3 day banned,or permantly banned over this..

ok guys lets open up a cold one and get to moding...

Wow, that was exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks a ton Bowman!!

About taking the Prometeia to a local refrigeration shop and having them charge it with R404 or R507, do I need to let them know of anything different that needs to be done with a Prometiea vs. how they would do the procedure on what they regularly work on (home refrigerators, etc.)?

as long as the shop is respected ..the work is straight forward...install charge fitting and evac and charge..if they get into moding the cap tubing that can take time and tuning..which would be pay by the hour type of stuff

I see. Can anyone give a ballpark estimate of the temperature improvements by switching from:

    1. (R134a) to (R404/R507)?

    and also switching from:

    2. (R404/R507 with regular capillary tubing) to (R404/R507 with modified capillary tubing)?

ball park...10degrees c is about the improvement..

the rest comes from on how good the guy is doing it..i have seen 20c gains in some units...it al becomes fine tuning...then

Will a 10 C drop in a Mach I make enough difference to achieve a higher overclock at all? Intuition suggests that a 20-30 C improvement would yield higher overclocks, but 10 C?

Although, intuition is proven wrong a lot in stuff like this....

good question, is the amount of effort and time needed to get this modded worth it in terms of expanding your potential OC?

10c is a significant temp drop....you should see it if temp is what is holding your clock back....it may not have anything to do with it.
