    2 X PMP-400 in Dual Pump Reservoir?

    I have two Koolance PMP-400's, one from 2008 with the red impeller (DDC2) and one purchased much more recently, DDC 3.25. from what I can find the specs are pretty close.

    Opinions on if they will play well together in a dual pump reservoir, such as the XSPC Dual 5.25" Bay Reservoir for Dual Laing DDC?

    Mixing similar pumps is fine. I've even mixed DDC and D5's together in testing and have yet to see how that could ever be a problem. Each pump produces pressure differential that's all and there is no mechanical tie between two pumps. The only way I could see mixing being bad is if the resulting flow rate ran one pump beyond it's operating curve.

    About the only thing I would worry about is heat dissipation of the pumps. Two pumps in series does raise the system flow rate and if you start pushing beyond 2GPM the heat of DDCs increases fairly quickly.

    How much heat depends on how much restriction, the less restriction the more heat.


    You might consider adding a heatsink or at least a fan to blow over the bases would be my suggestion.

    Wow. Honestly didn't think heat output of the pump would increase that much.

    And here is a latter test looking at cooling with the swiftech heatsink:


    I still have a Koolance heatsink I have yet to test in the testing que, but cooling is not a bad idea.

    Thanks for the info. I don't really need two pumps, but, I do like the redundancy factor. I would be running the pumps at 9v as opposed to 12v, so, there would be some reduction in heat. Good info for me to consider, and I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
