    Suggest a RTS ...

...with emphasis on "strategy" and not micromanaging and tactics. Its been a long time since I've played a 'traditional' strategy game, ofcourse I have Civ V and DotA but I'm aching for some AoE 2 -type action.
I will mostly be playing skirmishes vs AI or on LAN, so storyline/campagin don't matter. Want something with depth focus on careful planning.

    TIA

Most of the C&C games are pretty good, except the last one, C&C 4. My Fav is C&C 3, the last one Westwood made before EA bought them and turned everything to hell.

Then there's Company of Heroes, one of the best in my opinion.

Shogun 2 is what I'm playing right now. There's a coop campaign mode. However, the multi is all about micromanagement.

Hearts of Iron 3 is the strategy hardcore king.

World in conflict is also about micro, almost no eco but still it's worth checking out.

Supcom still kicks butt, especially with the Forged Alliance upgrade.

Good god how could I forget about Supcom

It's one of the best RTS games out there, definitely worth it's price.

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War is a lot of fun as well. Also, cannot forget Rise of Nations.

Both of those games are a hit at Lan Parties too.

Ground Control is a very underrated game, it looks very good and the zoom feature is awesome. The first one is freware now as well so you can't pass on that.

You should try CnC Gen ZH with the ShockWave 1.1 mod. Doesn't do much for looks but definently ballances out the factions and adds many very welcome refinements.
Currently playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat with Misery 2.1.1 and being miserable the entire time.

Hi guys , thx for all the replies.
I was thinking Starcraft 2 but i've played it in the past and it has too much "starcraft" in it . not that its is a bad thing but not something i appreciate after some time of play. i have tried empire total war but that is , well mostly ordering your troops to move around the battlefield - exciting but lacks depth. Should be fun with friends though. Haven't tried WH:40k,C&C ,SupCom or CoH, but from the units guide and research trees i checked out, SupCom looks most interesting - however I have one question - SupCom or SupCom 2 ?

If you are older than five years old then supcom+forged alliance.
    If not, supcom2.
Square dumbed down the game and it lost a lot of it's depth.

Company of heroes with BlitzKrieg mod. Its very tactical but you'll still have to micromanage in certain circumstances (units in and out of houses is a pain in the backside).
