    /sarcasm
WELL, they are (probably) offering a card equal to superior to HD 7970 in stock performance with better power consumption, using a smaller die and cheaper PCB components for $50 less. They are probably making the same profit margins as AMD with HD 7970 @ $550 that GTX 680 is making @ $500.

That said, if almost every review turns in their favor, they can almost completely stop sales for the two months that AMD realistically needs to create a price cut. Of course, the select fanboys will still buy it...or it will be close in performance terms and nobody will care either way. I think NVIDIA's goal here is to grab all of the top end market share, and in the end generate more profit. I think it is good for the AIBs too.

It will be some time before either AMD, Nvidia, or Intel reach a graphics core with the level of granularity/response in it's power gating to make it as power efficient as some of us can dream up. GPGPU assumes that the majority of the related features will be used while optimized for high computational throughput. Everything has tradeoffs.

Several have been leaked already and then pulled. The GTX 680 looks to do about 15-20% better on average than the 7970 (current drivers not withstanding). HOWEVER, this is all early information, wait for the big guns (Guru3D, [H], etc.) to release their official in-depth reviews on EVERYTHING--power consumption, temps, FPS, overclockability, performance per watts, etc, etc.

I'd be really careful playing around with any short term holding of tech stocks in this economy. NVDA is definitely one of the safer choices due to their excellent earnings these past 12 months as well as the low amount of cash flow from questionable sources (padding their earnings numbers with asset sales, stock options, etc). Give this a read.

It was a better buy than going with AMD's stock, especially after they were rated 11th of the most likely 20 tech stocks to drop.

its not the best idea to buy stock when their about to release a new product....especially nvidia right now

on the other hand Amd was a great buy in October of 2011 when I bought at ~$4.50

regardless any leaks yet? I got one for you

correct this card is much better deal than 7970 (at least it looks like that from early reviews)

And that's exactly why I told him to be careful. The only tech stocks that I own right now are Apple (bought at $19/share in 2004 when I heard they were moving to Intel), Intel, and some assorted penny stocks. Rest is in mutual funds and gold...
And on that note... to those of you who invest: The past few months I've been getting really odd feelings about this so-called "economic recovery". The exact same feeling I got back in 2008 just before the market tanked. The root cause of this anxiety lies in what the FED has been doing these past 3 years. Through quantitative easement, the federal reserve has almost doubled the amount of physical currency in circulation and even though they deny it... have been monetizing the national debt. And because the FED and White House have been using every possible method to hold off the inflation which must eventually occur in order to put things back in order.... it just gives me the feeling that it's going to cause hyper-inflation. Not quite pre-WW2 Germany inflation.... but worse than Jimmy Carter inflation.

Obama wants to redistribute the wealth. Well.... through hyper-inflation, any accumulated wealth will just get wiped out. Guess i should move more towards gold.

    Yep. Good price.

Nice. I've also been noticing that the more leaked reviews I see, the more it confirms that the GTX 680 does just fine at high resolution with AA/AF.

But... but... I thought people were insisting (and I mean *INSISTING* on other sites, here people had a good discussion) that the GTX 680 was a sucker because of 2gb VRAM? .

QUICK! Everyone sell your 7900 cards before the value drops even more! Oh wait, who cares if it does what you need? Well played Nvidia (except GPGPU, no longer folding kings I guess)

(although, if you're within return times, get the price drop, lol)
