Moreover, if those alleged benches are real, it still begs to differ the OC headroom of either card.

we know now that with proper hard mods we can take the 7970 to up to 1500 MHz core, which means that other board partners will be able to do do the same. With that in mind we need to know what will the OC headroom of the 680 be like.

Lol what does "4 months better" even mean? Nobody is expecting a smaller die to be faster than a bigger die on the same process. Btw it's 3 months and is irrelevant to most people.

Has anyone heard anything about a successor to the NF200 chip? It's quite old, power hungry, PCIe 2.0 only and you need two for 4-way SLI.

I'd say the opposite, this is a nice little thread compared with the 2 100+ pages threads and the final 70+ pages thread for fermi.
    That was crazy, woodscrew crazy.

gtx480 sli 1.5g would drop from 60 to 3fps which seemed to be simply due to lack of memory
now have a 3g 7970 and despite being a fair bit slower the fps only briefly drop to 30fps while some files are shuffled then it goes back to ~60fps with texture packs installed which puts the memory usage even higher
In layman's terms, that's what's called "stacking the deck".

That was playing Skyrim with the HD texture pack at 2560x1600 with 8xAAA & 8xMSAA. I saw spikes up to 2.4GB during some scenes. I doubt 1.5GB would be sufficient even at 1080p.
Hey Elfear, long time no speak. Hope all is well in your corner of the world. :-)

I haven't played Skyrim, didn't know there was a texture pack that combined with 8XMSAA bumps memory usage over 2GB at 25X16. Still, that is the exception, not the rule. I suppose if you're a Skyrim addict (and many are) with a 25X16 panel (few are) that's a valid consideration.

Given the number of years GPUs take to develop, 4 months isn't time to do "anything", better or worse. These choices were made long ago, based on the each companys internal roadmap.

Also, 7970 launched in January 2011, if Kepler launches in March 2011 as rumored that is not "4 months". It's more like "10 weeks". They probably can't even change box design in ten weeks.

If the rumored launch date is true, it would not be "smart shopping" to buy a 7970 now. Reviews of upcoming NV parts are supposedly upcoming, can't hurt to wait a week or two to see what the better buy is for your needs.

If it's still the 7970, you'll only have missed out on a couple weeks. If the upcoming NV card is the better part, you'll be able to buy that or get a 7970 for less.

would not be any incompatibility when GPU-Z recognizes the specifications? There is that possibility?

Chinese site says that there is no GTX 670Ti, it was just a decoy, a smokescreen and that VGA was generally 5% less than HD7970. The VGA just received a BIOS update that changed the name of the GTX 680 VGA, their income also rising, along with new drivers to an impressive 40% (in relation to such GTX670Ti) ie about 35% stronger than the HD7970 with TDP of 200W.

    Translated by Google:

    [I] [b] GTX, the smoke bomb 670Ti: to update the BIOS turned 680 outbreaks performance [/ b] [/ i]

Yesterday broke the GeForce GTX 670Ti type of proprietary graphics redQUASAR Huahuang He said micro-Bo, updated version of BIOS that become 670Ti GTX 680, in fact, GTX, NVIDIA GTX 680 and 670Ti is named GK104 not quite sure of the two names graphics core, and only one.

This new broke the news and other channels is similar to, GTX 670Ti just a smoke bomb. The results of previous tests show that lagged behind the GTX, HD 7970 670Ti 5%, while flashing the BIOS, the performance jumped 40% after replacing the new version of the driver. I think maybe the core frequency 670Ti 7xxMHz only 680 of the core frequency of more than 1GHz. According to various sources, GTX 680, the actual power consumption is about 200W, 3DMark 11 score X-mode from 3200-3300.

Rate below the standard AMD Radeon HD 7970, and perhaps will launch versions GHz overclocked edition, "to close the gap. ALU efficiency of Tahiti as good as Pitcairn and Cape Verde also have to consider the issue.

I think that one is fake:

    1. They write ATI instead of AMD
    2. They don't give out full product names (like Nvidia Geforce GTX 680)
    3. The shade of red and green used by Steam in their product comparisons is not the same as the one in their official graphs.
    4. There's also no background which there usually are in Valve's graphs.
    5. There is no indication of the FPS on the left side, this does not nessecarily mean fake but it could be similar to the classic HardOCP mistake where a <1 FPS difference looks like a 25% increase of performance.
    6. The graph appears to be on a slope which is atypical of graphs.
    7. I do not believe that Valve would that readily give away a sequel to a much anticipated game.
    8. I don't think that Valve would post such banter in their graphs either, it seems very unprofessional of them to put such a "confidential" tag in their graphs.

Nice try, but you can't fool me.

That would be...unreal. Perf/W and perf/mm2 improved considerably, almost doubled versus GF114. I want to believe

I'm just gonna guess it's within 5% above or below the 7970 @ the same speeds. So 1ghz vs 1ghz. We'll see how that pans out.

Of all the planted info the Chinese bots posted, this is the most ridiculous... Itīs not even worth an in depth analysis as to why it is so stupid.
Nvidia fans really go a long way to try to spread fud to halt AMD sales.
