    Goofiest mobo ever?

I saw this on guru3d this morning:
    http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/ecs...therboard.html

I think this wins over the gigabyte snipers for the lamest looking board ever made.
This board is so pimp it'll cut you when you insert memory.

    I mean really, dust shield?
I think asus had a better idea with there armor thing.

I don't usually knock boards just because, but I cant help it on this one.
I think it deserves a new name, the lame edition.
Gold caps, and almost completely useless pwm heatsink lol.

Well to each there own though.
I'm sure people will use it, a big ole there.

Wouldn't that be Ganked Drone then?

If I remember right, motherboard designers were including golds and yellows and blacks because of the burgeoning Asian market and the appeal of those colors. Though red would seem an obvious choice for the Chinese market at the very least.

Little brother to the "Gank Machine"

I must give ECS props on the naming even though they make a low quality board.

Gank; To steal or take something that does not belong to you.

The silly naming scheme has gone too far. The idea behind using names for motherboard products, is to avoid using the "engineer"-termed products like Z87H3-A3X. That name is only useful to distributors and industry insiders. Only they know what the letter combinations stand for. People unanaware of the technical stuff go by names. Ie. "ROG", "Sniper", Rampage Extreme".

This product has a total of twenty(!) syllables. E-C-S E-LITE-GROUP L33T GANK DRONE Z-EIGH-TY-SE-VEN-H-THREE-DASH-A-3-X.

Rumours go that ECS hired an external US company to teach them how to market to the western markets. You can actually see that from the website and their new BOX design, which I personally find very appealing. But this naming scheme is just stupid.

I compiled a list of motherboard product lines a while back: http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=79808

That board looks quite ugly to be honest and I'm not liking the heatsink.

I suppose they could always throw a irs logo on it and adapt a "yes we can" slogan lol.
But joking aside, the l337 logo is cool, I mean the white label on the board, not that pwm heatsink whatever that spells..

The pwm heatsink..., I cant really tell what it spells out.
It seems to spell out leee.

This board seems to be marketed to the gaming community.
I'm "guessing" that's how they came up with the naming, there could be other reasons but I think that fit's it best (without going off into other theories and offending people :\ ).

I do wanna note though that the name drone has negative connotations to it.
Horrible marketing with that particular name.

Gold colored caps are fine, I have no idea who made them though.
Heatsink design is horrid, its one thing to add a bit of wtf to a design, but to forgo just about all sense of cooling efficiency just to spell something out is is kinda stupid.
The dust shields..., it's not really gonna work out in the end, it may help but really it's not overall, and it looks like you could end up getting cut by accident.

I can't really tell but from the looks of it and from looking at some of there other boards it seems as if they used a kts battery.
I was under the impression that was actually thee worst brand of battery you can get other then say energizer's cr2032's...
Usually a battery isn't a biggy though, but kts, I've heard they don't last more then a few hours.
I don't know personally, just what I've heard, I've always tossed them out when I came across them.

It's obviously a budget board and that's fine.
It is a good laugh however.
Though I do recommend if you come across it in real life, try not to laugh at the user that owns it .

I think motherboard makers need to understand functionality comes 1st, then looks.
Especially when it comes to heatsinks.
That seems to be the thing these days, instead of cooling anything they are almost there just for looks.
Because of crap like that we have boards that run up to 60c on there chipset and such.
"Oh you actually wanna use the board?, then you should use a fan.." :\

Drone, gaming?, isn't that kinda pointing to training kids to play games so they can grow up to use drones on there own people sorta thing?
    Whatever though.

Honestly, this whole thing is like wth.
I even thought twice about starting this thread up but I did anyways (Honestly I kinda feel bad about it, I don't really wanna make it look all bad).

Ecs, no offense, but maybe you should think twice before coming out with something that could actually scare the avg american lol.
Not to mention politics and religion really, but still...

    Your showing your age

ECCS have made some truly awful boards in the past though I've never had any problems with their no nonsense, el cheeepo basic boards for non demanding usage

Yet another thread that I will never be notified of any new posts

For the first time in many months I finally get a notification (though not for any other thread)

I think they are trying to compensate for mainboards becoming too similar to each other due to half the stuff previously found on mainboards being integrated in the CPU, so they are getting desperate to stand out from each other and as a result we get products where the marketing department has done more work than the engineering department.

lol it does look a bit strange.

dfi a while back made a hybrid mobo that took ddr2 ram from laptops and desktops

and asrock having 754 AND 939 compatible mobo
    http://www.asrock.com/mb/ULi/K8%20Combo-Z/

other mobo makers just put the 754 on a plugin card. but only could use 1 socket at a time in either case.
not to mention the socket 370's with slot 1 and oh so many more.

Cool engineering boards. I still have an MSI P45-8D Memory Lover at home in original packaging .

I think nowadays only ASUS is doing those cool engineering projects. Remember the 1366+2011 combo "Danshui Bay" board?

Or even cooler, the Zeus with dual high-end GPUs onboard.

I think this colouring will go down well with the Far Eastern market, and GANK DRONE is such an awesome name. Maybe ECS is finally coming to the party, but they're starting with the wrong things
