I find it funny because in my opinion a real gamer should not rely on hardware to boost his performance, he should be able to adopt to change. Then again in what context was s real gamer applied here? if it was referred to professional gaming then I stand by what I said.

sorry...
but now i repeat with other words:
professional gamer with 120hz monitor (low input lag and low ghosting) need to play @ 120fps.
im very happy if ati enable in newest driver the option to force dx10/11 120fps because professional gamer can choise between ATI and NVIDIA
For me it's not that important how well I fare in online gaming as I'm not a pro-gamer but the difference is between getting annoyed by sluggish 60/75Hz motion smoothness and 120Hz goodness. I used 100Hz on CRTs and tried a couple of times to get acustomed to 60/75Hz motion in games but it always bugged me to death so went back to CRTs until I picked up this VX2268wm 120Hz LCD in 2010 which satisfies me as motion smoothness goes. 120Hz on a CRT is still a little better but 100Hz CRT motion vs 120Hz LCD is fairly the same though.
Having said that though good gamers get so well in games that they can play on a very constant level in terms of performance so hardware starts to matter, it allows them to play a little better, just like pro athletics can perform a bit better with better equipment. For example ping is very very noticable for me when playing UT3 which is very fast paced and relies quite much on good accuracy. My kill/death ratio is very much related to my ping, with a ping of say 50 ms I can maybe do 30/5 against average/good players on a public server in a DM round, if ping climbs to say 75 ms my ratio might be more like 30/12. I've played this game for like 4000hrs+ so I've gotten quite some comparision of ping's importance at this point.

I'm not a professional gamer....if I was I would be gaming...not talking about it on forums. All I was saying is that I tryed it (maybe not up to your standards) and for me, I couldn't tell the difference. I can totally understand the theory about why some could and I would not doubt for a second that some even bennefit from it. I just doubt there are very many around here

i dont see, technical or volounteer limitation for get v-sync @ 60fps on a 120hz monitor with AMD card (specially if it work in DX9 lol ) ... if something have been broken at a moment on the driver... this will be fixed, if not allready. ( I know there's something with dual DVI link for some to get the 120hz working, but it's a different thing ( in single you can't get 120hz )
If i have time, i will try find a little bit info on this. ( interest me even if we are offtopic ) .

i never run v-sync; the additional input lag (or output?) induced by sync isn't worth it (i can live with some tearing every now and then)

No true Scotsman.
At the end of the day they still launched 5870 at a little more than what 4870x2 sold for at a little less performance. Cypress didn't really move the price vs performance bar much either. I paid $300 for my GTX280 new almost two years before 5850 launched at $40 less and only a bit more performance. I was completely unimpressed with the Cypress launch. Then the msrp went up a couple of times, I kind of expect the same for 7xxx series.
Why would you need vsync with a 120hz monitor? I almost never see tearing on mine and when I do its normally not bothersome.
