Dunno tried MX518 from logitech it's weird in the bios ( everything at stock ) I have two of them mice, both act the same

setting I changed : Vdimm to 1.66, 2133 divider cl9-11-10-28 2T and trfc at 175... endles boot loop... board doesn't recover at all... and if it posts, the bios hangs at the initial screen and then reboots after a few secs...

Just flashed F5 : same mouse issue, seems the directions are messed up, if I move to the left it goes up, moving up it goes left,... laptop mouse works fine...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Wow Ace saw you have same batch cpu as me, but yours much better 5ghz 1.38!

Dino read point in a very inconvenient place, got one top side ?

Switched to win7 and cpuz reported droop isn't as much as in winxp... on auto LLC win7 has about 0.024v droop compared to 0.048-0.060v on winxp

FYI, I'm using Logitech wireless mouse without any problems in bios

what i see in win7 is closer to what i saw in hicookie's youtube X79-UD7 LLC demo video as he ran on win7 with cpuz.

I wonder why the good old Elpida BBSE and Hyper need so much voltage on this platform.

Goof, i'd say its because it cant do that memory speed or timings. Try to tune volts more, QPI and system agent

@Ball settings work fine on two other brands :p If I set the exact same values in small steps with a few reboot it works fine... from optimised defaults to all at once. : on/off show... had the bios corrupt screen recovery already a few times... Could flashing the backup bios to F5 eg improve the start issue as with s1155 ?
F5 is far more stable then the F4o this review board came with... Get them bios engineers working Dino, to unleash the real potential of this board... it' s positively evolving !!

    Hello,

I am looking into getting me a X79-UD5 and a 3930K as soon as I can be sure to get a C2 step chip.

Are the Gigabyte X79 boards widely popular beyond the extreme overclockers, or are they suffering from the bad publicity due to the one shot board that woe could see on youtube?

I hope to see really lively threads on the GA-X79 series, like the X58A boards had. Is there anything like this going on already? So far I couldn't find a good, very in-depth thread on the X79 boards.

    Thank you in advance

Latest biosses are improving the boards potential big time. But still walling on air around 4.8Ghz when booting into windows. CPU does 5Ghz on other boards. Under cold all is fine... need more time with it...

Leghoofd: I am using a Corsair H100 here by now since I needed a new cooler for Socket 2011 anyway. And I am still pondering if I am getting the 3820 instead. I know, the multiplier is locked but 200 Euros extra for two more cores that are hard to take advantage of is a bit much...besides the 3820 may be a C2 stepping from the start.

With a 3930 I wouldn't know if I am getting a leftover C1 with the VT-D bug. x.x And no, most likely I cannot peek at the box to see the SSPEC code.

i7 3820 has got up to 43 multi available. And with bclock 1.25 that will give loads of headroom, more your H100 ever can handle 24/7.... Depending on the app run 2700K has got similar performance then i7 3820, though on heavy multithreaded stuff seems the SB-E has got the edge... Reviewing the 3820 on the Siler board.

I can test the 3820 on friday on the UD5 if you wish to see how it works. I'm abroad at the moment...

Leghoofd: That would be fun, to know what I am facing. Are you sure it goes up to 43x? The 3820 is scheduled for release on Feb. 13, if you got one there it could be an unlocked engineering sample and not the final locked chip.

Or is 43x the higest turbo multiplier? Anyway 43x125 would get me to 5375, and that's way more than I expected. May be my way to go until the Ivys are released.

May be interesting to see if it's a C2, too.

I read earlier that one of the problems of the UD5 is that the CPU power MOSFET cooler is getting too hot. Is that still an issue? Has anybody experimented there with an extra fan or custom heatsinks?

    Edit:

I just came across a specific test of the 3820. They say there that it has 43x available. I wasn't aware that 'partially unlocked', as Intel says, is actually strictly referring to the available multipliers (as opposed to the 57x on the k-types). I thought it may only mean the availability of straps on the 3820. Hey, this chip is indeed fun!

    Thanks a whole lot Leghoofd!

One last question, did you need a BIOS update?
Is it possible that I may catch a board with a BIOS that's too old to POST with the 3820?

Erm, should? I don't know in advance what BIOS I'll have on my board when I get it. I might end up with a BIOS that's older than F7. I just mean if any older BIOS will POST with the 3820...

The odds are I will have to mail order it from Mindfactory.de or Alternate.de, you know. And all they do is grabbing the boxes from storage and mail them off. And noone knows how long the board has been lurking there.

Local stores here usually only have Socket 1155, AM2, AM3...the standard stuff.

You are confusing me, since when does any mail order company do that? I am not able to do that, seriously. How am I supposed to do that anyway?

Can you please post you maximum OC with this chip when you get time? I wouldnt mind trying one when they come out, its getting too expensive trying to find a good clocking 3930k.

Any reputable company should have a "Support" or "Contact us" page on the website, send them an email. If they dont, I wouldnt buy from them anyway.

Heh, I can tell you this: I am looking at more than 50 mainboards that I owned and tested and never was I able to know in advance what BIOS I am getting. but to clear this up, this is what Gigabyte told me twice already:

Intel has certain specifications for POSTing CPUs that are even not recognized by the BIOS. It is possible that they are being detected as the wrong CPU but in most cases you will be able to enter the BIOS and flash an updated BIOS on Gigabyte boards.

The only exception they mentioned was the i7-875k.

In the case of the X79-UD5 you are most likely getting the very first release BIOS F4 or F5 but it will POST with the 3820.

That's why Leghoofd's post had me confused...anyway, problem solved, question answered. ^.^

Gigabyte did a recall on all boards to flash f8 bios... But indeed it boots with f5... Make sure you have a fat32 usb stick for flashing bios ready
