3930K + Gigabyte X79-UD5 [4x2GB A-Data 2000X Elpida BBSE] quicky tests

Hi guys been out of action for nearly 9 months, so it's time to fire up some benching rigs

Over the weekend had a play with new Gigabyte X79-UD5 motherboard with retail Core i7 3930K 3133B464 batch Sandy Bridge-E cpu. Gigabyte X79-UD5 board photos here.

The Gigabyte X79-UD5 shipped with F3 bios, but I immediately flashed the main bios (dual bios) to F5d. Unfortunately, I think the bios still needs work as I tried every setting available and can't get Load Line Calibration (LLC) to work as I always get around 0.048v to 0.06v droop under load, so not sure how that affects my max possible overclocks ? Here's hoping more mature bios updates come

I don't have any Quad Channel X79 memory right now so can't take full advantage of the Gigabyte X79-UD5 and 8 dimm slot support. So decided for first attempt at Quad Channel on X79, I'll use 4x 2GB A-Data 2000X 9-9-9-24 1.6-1.8v rated Elpida BBSE based memory which consists of 2 sets of 2x2GB dual channel kits.

System config:

• Core i7 3930K 3133B464 Sandy Bridge-E
• EK Supreme LT H20 with Fesser 480 Rad
• Gigabyte X79-UD5 F5d bios
• 4x 2GB A-Data 2000X Elpida BBSE
• 2x HIS HD3850 CrossFire
• 60GB G.Skill Phoenix Pro SSD
• 1200W Silverstone OP1200 PSU
• Additional cooling: 180mm Silverstone fan + 140mm Xigmatech fan
• WinXP Pro SP3 32bit (cpuz not detecting all 4GB nor is it detecting SPD for memory ??)

Quick 12x 16M HyperPi and Super Pi 32M with Aida64 (bandwidth report seems to be off ?)

All done with 1866 mem ratio with 4x2GB A-Data 2000X @7-9-8-25 1T timings.





Bump up blck to 102.3 for 955mhz 7-9-8-25 1T

Quick 10min Prime95 at 4700Mhz 1.38v load

Some 3Dmark was done with 2x GB G.Skill 17600CL7D-4GBPIS 2200Mhz 7-10-10-28 PSC based memory earlier on in dual channel mode (only got 2 sticks)

single HIS HD3850 at stock

2x HD3850 CF runs at 4800Mhz at 1.500v idle and 1.440v load

More testing to be done with hopefully more mature Gigabyte X79-UD5 bioses. Hopefully, get some memory manufacturer samples after Xmas for proper Quad Channel testing as well.

i havent heard anything about ET7, it's just a number anyways, if it was a 7 it would have to be completely new design with some more meaningful changes... nothing ive heard

the 2x 2GB Gskill 17600 were PI series not ripjaws with vdimm at 1.69v

yeah tried auto, manual and nominal on F5d = not working LLC. Just flashed to newer 12/12 dated F5 bios and testing now but can say auto vcore = 0.048v to 0.06v droop under load still even in windows 7 which I just installed. One thing i noticed on F5d LLC setting reported in windows 3D Power app shows 0% which I assume is least vdroop option but still has vdroop. One F5 newer 12/12 dated bios, 3D Power shows LLC at 85% when set to LLC auto.

so

F5d 06/12
bios LLC auto or 15% set = 3d power LLC reported 0% = still vdroop

vs

F5 12/12
bios LLC auto set = 3d power LLC reported 85% = still vdroop

Either F5d or F5 bios don't have a 0% option selectable for LLC next one from AUTO is 15%

I just tested UD5 with F5b bios i have on there at the moment (will test newer bioses later) but with LLC all auto in bios i get a slight vrise from idle to load with hyperpi

1.32v set in bios, 1.32v idle in windows, 1.33v load with hyperpi in windows

it must be either ET6 or some bios setting.

i am uploading a video to youtube the way i run the bios for UD5

btw i am measuring with a DMM and i can see the CPUz is drooping but DMM is not. CPUz is not showing vcore 100%

I was using cpuz as hicookie had UD7 youtube video showing working LLC with cpuz read vcore

but only tried F5d and F5 never used F5b bios

anyone having bios mouse issues on F5D ? in windows all is fine, in bios it seems rather drunk :p

Also I can't set a lot of ram timings at the same time and reboot... rig goes into an endless boot loop. If I set them only a few at once then it all goes fine...

i havent seen either, perhaps its some incompability with your mouse. Try a different USB port maybe, what mouse is it?

what settings are you changing, perhaps it's not too stable at the ultimate settings or is it bclock related?

Try F5, that's the latest bios now
