wish i never bothered (16gb Vengeance)

so yeah, got my 16GB Vengeance sticks today CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 to be exact, im guilty of penny pinching, i should have just gone with slightly more expensive ram.

i read a few reviews on these sticks and they seemed to be performing well, it was my luck that i was reading up on before installing and herd they were actually crap for overclocking.

Hoping for the best, installed, and they dont budge a mhz! no post @ a 80mhz overclock. timings dont really help, il let you guys know more while i continue to do some testings.

    Hi Eldonko

nice clocks, is yours the 1600mhz version like mine or the higher rated(OC) models? mine says revision 2.21 i think it was.

Updating my motherboard bios, could well be the board.

all 4 slots filled, cpu says its in dual channel mode and is unganged, il try 1 stick at a time just to eliminate a bad stick.

AMD! I assumed you were on X79 and trying to run quad channel haha. Cant really help you a whole lot with AMD other than saying try 2 sticks at a time to see if it is a compatibility issue with 4 sticks.

seems better with just 2 sticks, no errors so far. overclocking, or even slightly changing the vdimm screws it up so im going to say its compatability with the board.

il update the thread once i get a new board, cheers

AMD doesnt like running 16GB and overclocking far with their older CPUs, plus a 770 chipset is definitely not up there in good OC territory. If you look at your board it even says it goes up to 1666 for overclocking the RAM.

But on top of that, Corsair is known to switch out RAM with some crappy chips that dont OC at all with their Vengeance line. Really only the original Dominators were something to brag about. Corsair is still living off their reputation from those.

i suppose really then, is there going to be a new line of AMD chipsets coming out very near or is it safe to go with a 990FX? i have had this board for ages, condensation killed my last.

if its safe to get a 990fx chipset and there isnt anything around the corner, il get another board and go from there.

cheers for the heads up. i have herd a few bad things about these sticks since i got them.
