Anyone have experience with refurb Canon T2i?

Seems like the best deal according to some of the people i've talked too. Anyone here have one with the 18-55 IS kit lens? With the cannon royalty program i can grab it for around 512 dollars, but it will be a refurbished item. Still good value right? (first DSLR)

Just wanted to get more opinions before i purchase

    thanks

Its not bad as first camera, but since already buying that refurbished, why not buy simply second hand camera?

Used 40D is around 550 USD at BHphoto.. Way better camera, if you dont tend to count pixels and pixels in 40D are certainly better than in 550D (T2i). I dont like current 18 mpix Canon APS-C at all. Would rather buy older Canon or new Nikon (or Sony).

I think its not bad camera, but for me, its just plastic waste of money, there is nothing on it I would like.

Thought maybe going with the Nikon D3100? The sensor is really nice, however you sacrifice megapixels...that is, 4 over Canon's 60D (the 18MP APS-C sensor is trash, full frame is better) or 2 over the D5100/D7000.

But then again the 40D is only 10 MP

It depends on what you want to do...

Just scroll through that (one is link directly to one 40D).

40D should survive 100k clicks without problems, some do more (friend has 221k, some less ..).

Otherwise, if you dont need super-low price..used D90 can be pretty good camera.

Megapixels are.. less than important as long as you are lets say over 8 mpix. 8 mpix is A4 size, which is more than most ppl ever print (if they print at all). Sure its nice to have 16 mpix or 24 mpix, but its not necessary to produce good photos. If you want new camera, I would go with either 16 mpix NEX 5N or Nikon D5100.

New Canon APS-Cs are currently not worth it. Its not like you cant do good photos with 600D or 60D, but then, you can do good photos even with iPhone. IMHO, dSLR should give some quality advantage over iPhone, which in case of 18 mpix Canon APS-C isnt that much real.. (except sensor size and AF).

I'd say >12MP instead of 8...sure, 8MP is more than enough for A4 size...but it is nice to have some wiggle room for noise reduction and cropping, as well as an occasional poster size print

The Nikon D3100 has a pretty astounding 14MP image sensor, ISO 12800 with RAW being usable in daylight and 3200+ in low light (using RAW)...and performing marginally better than the 40D (and 50D) in DxOmark. It doesn't have many "other" features though, such as bracketing.

If you are getting a new cam, D5100 or even Alpha A580 will do the job.

Sensor performance for cash though, a used D3100 would be best APS-C bang for buck in my mind.

    ohh them's fightin words...
comparing a 600/60D to an iphone. - not directly of course, just with regads to picture taking.

listen, i posted ALOT of shots with my T2i in the picture of the day thread and i would beg of you to go look at them.

the T2i is T H E best rebel ever made, hands down and i have had nearly every one. that 18mp sensor of the T2i, 7D, 60D is magic... pure and simple magic.
