    Early Ivy Bridge Sample Tested

    Information below
    http://www.cpu-world.com/news_2011/2...le_Tested.html

single thread benchmark, using SuperPI, showed that both chips have identical performance. Using the Fritz Chess Benchmark, the 3960X (using 8 threads) only scored 20% better than the 4 threaded Ivy Bridge chip. Testing with Cinebench, the 3960X (using all 12 threads) scored 5.68 points, compared to 3.35 on the Ivy Bridge.

I think we'll have to wait a bit more for some comparable results, as this system looks to be pretty much what programmers would call 'early alpha version'

If i5-3570 will do 6GHz on air, then I will replace my 5GHz i5-2500K.

Nowhere near even 10% improvement, the improvement we see there is the gains we would expect from an improved memory controller only.

Anandtech previously said that ivy bridge is going to have IPC increase of 4 to 6%

    IB@22nm, not SBe.

    IBe is SBe@22nm

The thing rumor is that there is no cold bug with IB.

You read my mind. If the 3770K does 6ghz on water, I'd consider the upgrade. 1ghz is a decent jump. I'm in the same boat sitting on a 5ghz chip.

Check out the S & T models. They look great for an HTPC. i5 3470S being 35w would just be a great cpu for that. Even the 3770S would make for a nice little HTPC gaming rig if you set up a low power profile on a high end card for 2D.

    Where's the i3?
    You must [not] advance.

No coldbug sounds nice, but that might be a useless feature, if IB shares the multi/clock walls and almost not existing cold scaling abilities with Sandy Bridge. But hey, if it's true, you can at least fill up your container, start the benchmark, go to the kitchen, make a sandwich, eat it, go back and save the screenshot.

Y'all got some high expectations, I'm happy if it'll do 5.5GHz+. Then again I don't have a SB yet. I could use some CPU upgrade though, bloody Skyrim needs a 5.5GHz Sandy Bridge (no joke) to run constant 60 FPS (at least with "Ultra" shadow quality) but I can run 8xAA/16xAF and multisampling nicely with a GTX 460. Looks like CPUs going to become more and more important part for gaming with these shoddy console ports eh?

Have they set themselves a cap of under 4ghz? Did the pentium 4 really do that much damage?

Looks like ivy could be hitting two birds with a single stone, performance and power consumption. Always good in my books.

Lets see now, come April I should be running IB 3770K chip along with a new mobo/chipset and a couple of high end nvidia video cards, preferably PCIe 3.0 capable. This sounds like music to my ears, I'm like a kid with a new toy...

this is either true, or would be a great april fools joke
IB is looking ok just from seeing the expected clocks and TDPs, and hopefully great for their price too.

nothing spectacular, the usual 0-10% gain, but the best thing in IB is the very nice drop in power consumption.

I wonder what Paulbagz will make of this, he was so sure that Ivybridge was going to be the second coming.
