Occupy Flash movement aims to rid the world of the Flash Player

Flash Player is dead. Its time has passed. It's buggy. It crashes a lot. It requires constant security updates. It doesn't work on most mobile devices. It's a fossil, left over from the era of closed standards and unilateral corporate control of web technology. Websites that rely on Flash present a completely inconsistent (and often unusable) experience for fast-growing percentage of the users who don't use a desktop browser. It introduces some scary security and privacy issues by way of Flash cookies.

Flash makes the web less accessible. At this point, it's holding back the web.

Occupy movements are full of apple fans, apple hates flash.... thus occupy flash! Though I do enjoy watching the cops beat the out of them (I work in Washington DC and protests are a constant pain in my ass).

I like flash for animating, and small interactive thingies, but not for entire websites. maybe I'm being too specific to join the movement.

LMAO I find it funny and I don't mind other people protesting for whatever they think is worth their time.
I don't like Flash. I would like it to fade away from web design so I guess I agree with the idea.
However I doubt this movement will achieve what they seek. Flash will eventually be left behind as more and more developers swith to jQuery, HTML 5 etc.

Adobe are lazy and every piece of software they make is substandard and behind the times. They do not deserve to be at the reigns of any standard in the software industry.

lol to bad this is one thing adobe didn't made... have people already forgotten macromedia? Flash came out there poop... hell adobe even tried to bring there own stuff.. anyone remembers adobe livemotion or corel rave?
Its not like others haven't tried... flash is there and it will last... even MS with all the money they put behind silverlight can't competent against flash...

Also many people think streaming video is the only flash application... when we go with what made flash big (scripting) HTML5 utterly lacks compared to flash...

Geez, people have been complaining about flash for 15 years, why don't they spend their moaning time developing a BETTER alternative, because I don't see any.
html5 can be fine for videos but not much more

yeah, flash is a pile of crap. almost all driveby installs are done through exploiting flaws in flash - all you have to do is see an attack banner ad, and boom! - you're infected, doesn't even matter what browser you use. due to the way banner ads are sold, attack ads end up slipping into the rotation on otherwise harmless sites all the time, so even if you open dodgy sites in a VM, you still aren't safe from malware.

in addition to being by far the biggest security liability (it's pretty much just as bad as ActiveX), it's also slow and inefficient.

sadly, i don't see it going away any time soon.
    chicken-and-egg (infrastructure) problem.

PDF and their PDF RIP kernels for professional printing software are standard. working for the software-side I can't say they make things more easy.
flash on the other hand was a nice thing to play with, creating things and watching some funny short movies with very creative ideas.

There is always a security issue if you want one...you can say that about all browsers, operating systems and data-collecting website you want.

It's just that somehow Adobe software gets targeted the most. Maybe malware makers just like it?

Well I guess I will still go to my occupied work movement where I can let my money support my interest in a more productive way than bumming smokes and holding a anti flash poster.

I'd like to "occupy" Occupy so to speak. Rid the world of loons & screwballs (not the ice creams of course) all at the same time.

It's strange but on this occasion I'm all for less free speech & more cracked heads.
