Really want to tests the differences between the BE and the Extreme version under LN2... We had mega fun with the Extreme at the FoM with the 4960X humming along at 5750Mhz with the ARES II card...

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Yes, I would like to know the differences in overclocking between the two as well.

What BIOS is currently working the best for everyone on the RIVE with Ivy-E's? I know quite a few have been hitting a 4.5Ghz wall on air/water but supposedly EVGA and MSI have new beta BIOS's that will noticeably improve Ivy-E overclocking on their boards.

EGA_JacobF says beta BIOS version 2.03 for the x79 Dark which was due out today will DRAMATICALLY improve overclocking and voltage usage on Ivy-E processors. +100-300MHz in some cases. Supposedly they took some time to make sure the PLL Override function was working perfectly, and now that it is the results are big.

Hopefully ASUS is working on something similar and doesn't hold back on the current RIVE due to the "Ivy Bridge-E optimized" Black Edition coming out next month.

If this PLL thingy would be the case and in best case scenario I am sitting on a 6000MHz 4960X and 8pack at least a 6300MHz Vantage one... would be too cool if true

Nevertheless great to see the vendors releasing updated board/bios versions to get the most out of the 22nm CPUs... awesome !

5 months wait is not encouraging. The audio detection on my RIVE is freaking out and I verified my speakers are not the issue.

Has anyone seen a newer R4E bios than 4403? Is 2666 capability common on Ivy-E? I cant get any rams to boot at 2666 at any timings or volts ....

What kind of cooling are you running and what do load temps look like? Also, how hard was it to stabilize the 4930 at that speed?

I am watercooling CPU and 2 GPU's with 420 and 360 RAD in one loop. Temps during load were in the high 70's, and was not that hard to stabilize the CPU at 4.75 Ghz and memory at 2666 Mhz, it took me about 2 hours of overclocking and testing for stability.

I tried this and it performs better but I still can not get 2666 to run... I think we get the crappiest silicon down here ...

@aussie: lolz. Keep trying mate. Quad channel is a bit trickier than dual channel. Raise the VTT and VCCSA a bit more. leghmoh got a better cpu. Mine needs more VTT and VCCSA to run stable c11 2666Mhz ram.

The probem with the 125 strap for 24/7 use is, that it disables offset mode for vCore and thus result in higher power draw during idle.
With offset mode for vCore, i can get as low as 0.875V during idle while keeping up to 1.3875V under load (4.8GHz overclock with a 3930K). Its a bit harder to stabilize, but its worth it.

Guys, can many of you reach 2600+ with 4930K and R4E? Are these cpus common or rare? Judging by the few posts in the 3D11 LLC physics thread it seems pretty uncommon. Im trying to work out if I need to keep binning or stick with this cpu. Same goes for 5ghz, rare?

The best I could do was 125 strap, bclk down to get ram to 2600-10-12-12 2T but it doesn't score as well as 2400-9-11-11 1T.

Legmoh - can you do a 3D11 physics run at 4500? Im curious.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on with my system.. Ever since I updated to BIOS 4502 on my Rampage IV Extreme it's been freezing on me at random.. It might freeze while booting within a few seconds before reaching the BIOS, or it might boot into Windows and be just fine for several days before freezing.

After updating to Windows 8.1 a few weeks back after grabbing the RTM ISO from Microsoft Dreamspark my system have been reporting various issues with some kind of USB devices even though all my USB devices seems to be working just fine and connecting them to other systems is providing no such issues, it even reports this without any USB-devices connected at all and Device Manager claims there are some issues with a USB HID device for five seconds, then it's fine for about five seconds, then it claims there are some problems for five seconds and it keeps going like this forever. I tried to delete the ASMedia USB 3.0 drivers, install the newer v1.16.20.0 ones but it doesn't make any difference. I have no such problems on my server running Windows Server 2012 R2 (basically the server version of Windows 8.1) and it also features a Asus Rampage IV Extreme motherboard and it's also updated to BIOS 4502.

I've tried to revert back to older BIOS released without any luck, I also tried the latest 4503 release but it's all the same. I tried to re-install Windows 8.1 from scratch and after numerous freezes during the install I finally managed to get through the setup, installed all the drivers and got all the updates install but it's still the same USB related issues and it freezes at random. The only thing I've noticed is that things have started to get progressively worse, now my system don't seem to be able to run for more than max 15 min before freezing, earlier it would at least be able to run for a few days at best but no more. In the beginning I suspected it to have something to do with Windows 8.1 as it seemed like I could run memtest86+, various Linux Live-CD's forever without issues but now it's halting and freezing even before the Windows loading kicks in and during memtest86+ my display might go black or the system might just shut down for no apparent reason.

There is, and there never has been any overclocking involved at all. I've always ran everything at stock, the only thing I've done is setting the RAM to 2133MHz @ 9-11-10-32 @ 1.65V, increased the current capability of the CPU and RAM to 120%, the various power options to Optimised and the Load-Line-Calibration to Medium and changed various on-board controllers and boot settings and that's it. Now it won't even work with safe default settings or anything and at times I have to shut down the power supply for several minutes in order for it to get through the BIOS boot at all.

I have no idea what's going on, and even though these USB related issues existed before I updated from 4206 to 4502 (I updated with a hope of fixing the USB issues as the update stated to "1 Enhance compatibility with some USB device." my system was at least running stable 24 / 7, but ever since I did this update it's been all nonsense and now my system is utterly useless.

The motherboard, RAM and PSU is less than six moths old, I've been running Rampage IV Extreme since release but got another board and placed my old board in my server which seems to be running fine (but it has a defective on-board audio, but I don't really care much) and got new ram and PSU while I was at it so it seems strange that any of this should cause problems already.

    My system consists of:

    - Asus Rampage IV Extreme (BIOS 4503)
    - Intel Core i7-3960X
    - 2xCorsair CMD8GX3M2A2666C11 (normally running at 2133MHz @ 9-11-10-30 @ 1.65V)
    - Gainward GeForce GTX Titan
    - Corsair AX 760i Plantinum 760W PSU
    - Creative Titanium HD Audio Card
    - Samsung 840 Pro 500GB SSD
    - Intel 320-Series 160GB SSD
    - Intel 510-series 250GB SSD
    - Corsair Link Cooling and Lighting Kit
    - Corsair Link GPU Kit
    - Razer DeathAdder 2013 Edition Mice
    - Ducky Year of the Dragon Mechanical Keyboard
    - Samson C03U Microphone
    - Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter
    - nVIDIA 3D Vision USB-adapter
    - Logitech C910 Webcam
    - Asus Xonar Essence One External DAC (connected using SPDIF / Optical from Titanium HD)
    - Windows 8.1 Pro x64 UEFI Installation

I am having some difficulty with interpreting my AIDA64 memory results, I have seen significantly higher and lower results using similarly clocked memory, I am using a higher density kit with 4x 8GB sticks (G.Skill F3-19200CL10Q-32GTX)

Are these results ok? Is this a result of the higher density memory or the loose secondary and tertiary timings?

sounds to me like a short circuit or something. try removing the board from the case and test it bare on a bench with only graphics, a disk and 1 ram connected/plugged.

there are simply too many possibilities on what this could cause, so try them one by one. starting with ram, then storage, then everything else.
i also would air-clean everything when you take your stuff out of the case, especially all slots and connectors.
if all is working fine outside the case, please check if you overtightened some screw on the motherboard or have a cable or debris on the motherboard tray that could shorten stuff.

if nothing of that worked, then you might have a defective board...

It's a result of losser sub-timings which high density modules require for stability.

I swapped in a G.Skill 4x4GB 1866c9 kit (F3-14900CL9Q-16GBZL) and had results that appeared to be inline with my previous AIDA64 Cache & Memory results:

    Shouldn't the latency be <60ns?
